David92506 -> Should I File A Better Business Bureau Complaint? (11/8/2013 11:49:49 AM)

I ordered several items from, eXtreme Restraints, and they offer limited mailing options. UPS dropped the package on my doorstep and someone came and opened up the package and took the items. I called UPS and they told me next time I need to request a signature when delivering. I complained to eXtreme Restraints because they don't offer this option. eXtreme Restraints wrote back:

Hello David,

Thank you for your email. We are very sorry to hear this however you will need to file a police for your stolen merchandise. The package was shipped standard via UPS as there will be no signature required we do not advise a signature is required for delivery.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us.

Best regards,

Melissa

They don't allow customers any options to prevent theft and they claim no responsibility. If this was you, would you file a complaint with the BBB? The total value was approximately $40.00 so it's not worth taking them to small claims court.

I personally wouldn't file the report. Just be thankful it was only $40. Was any kind of insurance offered when you placed the order? And usually those packages have no labeling for what they are. Maybe leaving it with a neighbor could have been an option.

Sorry for your loss.

I would say no. When you made the purchase, you accepted all terms of the agreement, including shipping options. If the shipping options were unacceptable to you, there was always the option of making your purchase elsewhere. (You also could have used a P.O. Box, had a neighbor watch for the package, etc.) Extreme Restraints did fulfill their end of the agreement by filling your order and shipping it by UPS under the stipulation that no signature was required. They did what they said they would do. They aren't required to offer additional delivery options.

This exactly. The BBB would tell you that the seller fulfilled their duty and that you failed to educate yourself of the type of shipping service available.

They opened the package, took the itema and left the box? They didnt just take the whole box?
That seems a bit strange.

That sounds wrong to me, too.

And I've ordered from that place, their boxes are very discrete and don't require a signature for a reason. Many like to have their gear shipped to a PO box, which they can't do if they require a signature.

I agree with LadyP, they did what they said they would do. Why would you complain? The culprit is the person who took the contents of the box.

Signatures are the best, but if that isn't offered I prefer companies that ship with tracking service at the very least. That way you can check daily to see where your package is en route and when approximately during what part of the day it will arrive (so you can have someone check/be there at the appointed time).

Even with this delivery isn't certain. Two years ago I ordered a Halloween costume from a company I'd gotten hubby's costume from a week previously. I watched the USPS online tracking service and tracked it to My local post office where it was listed as "Arrived, out for Delivery" so was expecting it that afternoon. I was home and able to watch for it, but it never arrived. Unfortunately it was a Saturday...I think a holiday was the next Monday (Columbus?) so it wasn't until Tuesday when I was finally able to call the post office and give them the tracking number. The mail carrier said it was left on the porch...I don't OWN a porch! Unfortunately he claimed he couldn't recall what residence he left it at...and whatever dumbass received it, KEPT it (The postmaster got an earful...it was just a $50 costume, but what if it had been something irreplaceable like a family heirloom, etc???)

I certainly can sympathize...though having KINK mail lost or stolen will probably cause some neighborhood rumors to develop...if they do, just follow the rumors backward, and you should be able to find your thief!

Thank you for the feedback.

Thanks for the update. Very nice customer service from them.

They've always been great with me, and there gear is pretty good, too.

Good for them!! I wonder if they are aware how much great advertisement they just bought? I have never bought from them but for my next purchase they just moved to the top of the list.

First, XR did nothing wrong so why are you complaining about them? Small claims court? Please.

Second, if you're looking for anything other than personal satisfaction, complaining to the BBB is useless.

Third, you can contact UPS and request that drivers require a signature for any future deliveries to your address and they will do so for no charge.

littlewonder -> RE: Should I File A Better Business Bureau Complaint? (11/8/2013 5:45:46 PM)

Next time make sure to call UPS ahead of time and ask them to require someone to sign for the package. That has zilch to do with Extreme Restraints and everything to do with you and UPS.

I learned the lesson the hard way when I had something stolen from my doorstep because I figured it would be safe until I got home from work. Now I only ever require a signature and if I can't be home then they take it to the UPS store and I pick it up from there.

MarriednHappy -> RE: Should I File A Better Business Bureau Complaint? (11/8/2013 8:28:45 PM)

Ok I work in the shipping industry and deliver packages as well as pick them up. The general policy is to not leave the packages in a highly visible area. In the end though it is at the courier's discretion on if the neighborhood/house seems like it would be ok to leave. Well in general UPS drivers work 12 hour days some times more. They are not going to want to have to go back to your house again and again if they can help it. That is the reason they will more often than not just "knock and drop". This was on UPS and not the company you ordered from. You would need to file a complaint with UPS as it seems you did and they blew you off. I'm sorry that this happened to you.

For the future though often if you call up the company you are ordering from you can insist it be shipped via FedEx. If this happened with FedEx you would file a claim and get your money back. They may be more expensive to ship with than UPS but their customer service is better though.

I concur with the others that said this is suspicious. Too me it seems like it could have easily been the driver. We know how to read shipping lables and determine where the package is coming from. If they never left the package it would draw attention to themselves but by leaving an empty open box it makes it look as if it was some random person.

All the insisting in the world isn't going to make them use FedEx just for you if they don't have an account with them already. The pricing deal they have in place with UPS is almost certainly contingent upon them using UPS as their sole shipper. It's exceedingly rare for retailers to offer both FedEx and UPS for this reason alone unless they're large enough to have the leverage to negotiate a less restrictive contract. I doubt a boutique like XR would come close to qualifying in that regard.

MistressDesireSD -> RE: Should I File A Better Business Bureau Complaint? (11/14/2013 9:36:49 AM)

I would have to agree with the monitoring of your package's transit. I have had stuff sent to My office, and normally the shipper is on cue with the tracking information... however one time they delivered one of My boxes next door, and regardless of the fact that I require signatures for all packages they confirmed that it was delivered but "your Secretary refused to sign for it"....I asked what address it was delivered to, they admitted to making a mistake...surprisingly
