Outside of human rights abuses, I don't generally pay much attention whatsoever to political doings in countries I don't live in, but is anybody else watching the case of the crackhead mayor in Toronto?

I don't even know the guy's ideological leanings, but what a fucking spectacular train wreck!

jlf1961 -> RE: Canada's crackhead (11/8/2013 8:41:39 PM)

I have checked a few things about his activities.

You have to admit, when a Canadian politician creates a scandal, they really go all out to do it right. According to the deputy mayor, he prepared to take some downtime.

I wonder if that is Canadian for Luxury Rehab Center?

MsLadySue -> RE: Canada's crackhead (11/8/2013 8:55:00 PM)

Thankfully I'm in Ottawa, not Toronto. This poor excuse for a mayor has so many abuses against him he should be impeached. Leave it to Canada to not have that option where Toronto's mayor is concerned.

The man hires a mob enforcer as his part time driver. This guy was doing everything in his power to ensure his boss's crack video would not be found.
Guess he missed someone/thing in his search.

The mayor is an alcoholic and a drug user and his brother Doug is a drug dealer. Robbie has been dinged with DUI who knows how many times and has been publicly inebriated so many times people have lost count. Mind you, more people are taking videos when he does this now so it's not going to be hidden like it used to be.

MsLadySue -> RE: Canada's crackhead (11/8/2013 8:56:40 PM)

Hey, look at me ... I've finally made my first post in P & R.

JeffBC -> RE: Canada's crackhead (11/8/2013 8:57:21 PM)

LOLOL... I don't listen to the news much but I heard about the fine mayor on the way to pickup Carol from the airport (oddly enough, on a flight from Toronto LOL).

I'm still cracking up over the whole thing. "Well, sure I did some crack cocaine, but that was only because I was in a drunken stupor." I can't quite figure out which is funnier, the toronto mayor or the battle over "bongy" -- the bong mascot that lives outside a head shop not far from our house. Colbert documents the whole sordid mess emanating from the "lawless narco-tundra that is Canada".

That's the part that I love the best. The guy's got endless chutzpah.

It reminds me of the honest version of American politics.

Lucylastic -> RE: Canada's crackhead (11/8/2013 9:22:25 PM)

cept he s far from honest

Out of curiosity...what prevents you from throwing someone like this out of office in Canada?

BTW...congrats on your first P&R post. [:)]

Apparently there is no power to recall the mayor, only an act of parliament would do it

Wow. Sounds like you should just go ahead and arrange a "bus accident" for this guy instead of using proper channels. [:)]

I'm loving that whole train wreck. We're only an hour or two from Toronto, so we hear a lot about what's going on up there. I suppose someone's gonna have to write a super-stern letter about this, eh?

All I know is that the silver lining in this whole fiasco is that it caused Colbert to coin the phrase:

"the lawless narco-tundra that is Canada"

I'm going to be laughing about that for at least a decade... possibly longer.

That one sadly doesn't include the choice phrase "lawless narco-tundra that is canada" and it doesn't contain the gripping documentary regarding the drug drama occurring on the mean streets of my very own town.

.. "The Bong Warehouse"??? cripes! ..you mean to tell me they sell so many bongs they need a whole warehouse for that? [:D]
Yes.. it all sounds very gripping.. "he said. “We are just a bunch of peace-loving, granola-eating hippies.”" yeah,.. that's his story and he's sticking to it.. [8D]

I have never paid much attention to what goes on in Toronto.. that mayor tho.. esh! how embarrassing.. hope he gets shown the door (for good) in the next election..

Lucylastic -> RE: Canada's crackhead (11/10/2013 3:24:15 AM)

He made the BBC with his "newest" video

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-24858250
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford in video murder rant
Embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has apologised for a video of him making threats to commit "first-degree murder" against an unknown person.

The leader of Canada's biggest city told reporters he had been "extremely inebriated" in the clip, which shows him apparently blowing off steam.

It is the latest video controversy to engulf the mayor, who admitted this week having smoked crack cocaine.

DarkSteven -> RE: Canada's crackhead (11/10/2013 4:13:54 AM)

I understand everything except how he could have been elected in the first place.

Maybe the locals are too busy following politics in countries where they don't live, to look at their own ballot?
