First, you have to close the account and then resist the temptation to see if it was deleted for a couple weeks. There is a certain "grace period" in case you deleted your account in haste. Even then some people have had their accounts reopen. One thing that has worked for many is to erase all the information in the account before you delete it...then wait several weeks before checking back. What is the big deal if the account doesn't disappear if all your information is gone?
