Could Stockholm Syndrome and Lima Syndrome be the same capture-bonding psychological mechanism that differentiates it's development dependent on whether engendering from either a Dominant or submissive position?

While I believe this is a valid question, I'm in no mood to do the homework on it, frankly. Both conditions you mention occur outside an interpersonal relationship, and my first impression would be neither would apply according to the criteria defined for both, as per se. Certain facets native to each may arise, but not in totality.

This presumes that in all dom/sub relationships there is pain. Since many people engage in this without s & m, such as a 50s household or any nonpunishment dynamic, I'd have to assume it's not applicable.

The kidnap victim abducted against it's will then begins to express empathy and sympathy for, while being drawn to the captor(s).
The kidnapper abducts the hostage against it's will and then develops sympathy for the hostage before releasing it.
An EPM is transformed into the exact same decision rule in both instances.

It may help if you explain what you want to know about both conditions. Minor point, but when describing a subject in the gender-neutral, the words they and their are more appropriate than the non-specific it, it's, and its. And slightly less creepy.

Or, is it all simply the survival trait of appeasing the strongest most aggressive in the vicinity.

But most of us don't decide to keep dating someone aggressive who ignores our limits. We don't appease them. We take out restraining orders against them.

As such, there is no correlation between a consensual d/s relationship and a brutal abduction.
