So the Senate passed ENDA, that extends civil rights legislation in terms of employment, housing and so forth to gays and transgender people. It passed the senate with 64 votes, including 10 republicans, and with the support of a lot of strange bedfellows, including surprisingly the mormon church (several mormons voted for it in the Senate)..\ Yet John Boehner is refusing to bring it up in the house at all, claiming among other things 'it violates the religious beliefs of employers' (really? Does that mean I can refuse to hire or fire born again Christians because I consider them an affront to Christianity?) and how it will bring frivolous lawsuits (this from a man who was an ambulance chasing lawyer before going into politics, kind of funny). He is the classic example of why the GOP is going to face huge losses and become basically the old Dixiecrat party, as speaker he can't/won't confront the tea party, and has just made himself look like what he is,a bigoted, narrow minded jerk from 'the heartland', that apparently has nothing to do with empathy and compassion. The fact the people in Ohio elect this clown tells you a lot about what people from mid america are like, guess they love a sleazy lawyer with a crappy fake tan who is proud to be a smoker....and this is the best the GOP can do for speaker? People like Carl Albert and Joe Gannon and Reed must be turning over in their graves.
