ORIGINAL: DesFIP Had a friend when I lived in Manhattan whose parents lived in the area. If she went home to visit she always came back with an extra suitcase full of chips. How do you keep them hot? Don't they get soggy with the vinegar on them? >sighs impassively< Gary, 'chips' are for us what 'crisps' are to you folks. To us, 'crisp' is an adverb, not a noun. A descriptor, rather than a thing. Hiya MasterC! I knew someone would be kind enough to take the bait ! Chips are chips, & not 'French fries' whatever they are, something you have in France presumably. Crisps are called crisps because they're crisp when you eat them, chips are not so, QED! Besides, if I remember Gabrielle's question correctly, it involved 'crisps' not 'chips'. Chips are a whole different kettle of fish! By the way, at the moment, I'm loving a bag of 'Crispy pork crunch', It's wonderful ! Incidentally when Lynnxz wrote about Tortilla 'chips', that's perfectly cool & correct, that's the what we call them over here. Well done Lynn, you show potential xx.
