ORIGINAL: Spiritedsub2 I started wearing Uggs in the late 1970s when I lived in OB. Back then, little surf shops in California and Florida were the only places they were sold in the US. So, you're entirely familiar with the Ugg boots and shorts / flip flops and winter coat culture of San Diego... I just had three guys (members of the royal family and presidential guard) come in from the Middle East. They wanted the most formal hotel in downtown. I booked the US Grant. They complained that it wasn't formal enough because people were in shorts and Uggs or flip flops. I had to explain the San Diego is a beach town and during the day, that's about as formal as it gets. I'd have thought that at least the male members of that middle eastern contingent would have enjoyed the barely-clad-except-for-their-Ugg boots style of San Diego formalwear! I moved from San Diego to Chicago in March, and when I got off the plane at O'Hare, I had sandals on. Didn't own anything but Uggs and sandals. It is hard to move from San Diego and fit in anywhere else
