Greetings,

It is that power of words thing... people like to stir things up with emotion, which puts us into a slave-mentality. If people were stronger and more powerful within themselves, they wouldn't get so easily swept away with words that are caused to inflame them. But unfortunately, we are all quite weak. I am sure several decades of spending most of our days sitting in chairs all day hasn't helped much, for starters. We are weak. And we are our own worst enemies when we write things to inflame each other in any way... I don't think there is any point in history that we really all need to start understanding the power of our words, the effect what we say with our mouths has on our own minds and beliefs, as well as other people.... and we say a lot of "smoke and mirrors" and not much of any substance. And again, I might be wrong, but I would say, I can't think of any other point in history, when substance is needed. We have plenty of smoke and mirrors... don't you think? We don't need to create any more for ourselves, it is really hard to see already.

Sincerely,
~sgs

The Republicans are unhinged from reality. IRAQ and Afghanistan cost the USA 1 Trillion Dollars. The Republican lack of economic oversight and regulation led to the great recession. As a party, its members have learned nothing either about economics or foreign policy. Instead of improving their ideas of government administration, they are actually doubling down on bad policies.

Google who caused the recession of 2008. You will find that most economist say the housing bubble collapse was the cause. The Democrats, Starting with Carter, thought everyone should own a home. Then Clinton continued and threatened to sue banks that were too "cautious" in their lending for homes. So anybody who could hear thunder and see lightning got loans. Shit hit the fan when these shaky loans defaulted in droves.

Don't Democrats pride themselves as being the "workingman's party," and Republicans as big business? And you say the party of "big business" don't know anything about economics?

No, dont talk in dumbass.  Repeal of Glass-Stegall, a wholly nutsacker endeavor, and masturbatory regulation oversight by nutsackers caused it.  Period.  For innumerates, it may interest you to know that you cannot and will not be behind in a mortgage 1, 2, or 3 years before they start to forclose.....

See W, too big to fail, all that free market asswipe.

mussorgsky -> RE: Republican Agenda (12/5/2013 1:38:59 PM)

Let's not also forget:

-2006 is when the Democrats took control of Congress. It's also when they stopped talking about ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with such fervor as before. Remember all the anti-war talk and chanting, "not one more day, not one more dime," and other slogans? And even though Bush was still president, they were basically in control (with an overriding majority) of the government for his last two years.

-Obama has now killed more people than any other Nobel Peace Prize winner. Even our own government admits that most of these people are civilian non-combatants... and that's AFTER redefining combatant as any "combat-age male" rather than someone actually fighting.

-The Federal Reserve System is the root of both this latest depression and basically every depression since they started in 1913. Research "The Great Depression of 1920" to see the difference.

Again, the problem lies in both parties and in government as a whole. Just look online at the loads of clips and quotes of certain key politicians (Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Boehner, and others on BOTH sides) who oppose or support certain policies (war, deficit spending/debt limit, etc.) depending only on whose bill it is. But too many people are hooked on whatever brand of propaganda they prefer. Fox is the neo-conservative wing's propaganda arm and will tell you that Republicans are the best, war is awesome, and Bush was a great guy. CNN and MSNBC will tell you that Obama is perfect, Democrats have the solution to everything, and anyone opposing them is racist and stupid. None of these ever tell you the full story and the truth is seldom mentioned. I know it's hard for some of you to believe, but it's possible to realize that both Bush AND Obama are terrible presidents and that BOTH have done horrendous amounts of damage to the country - economically, socially, our reputation, and more. The same is true with both parties. The "left-right paradigm" only distracts from the true issue: the state versus the people, tyranny versus freedom.

mussorgsky -> RE: Republican Agenda (12/5/2013 1:42:24 PM)

So when Bush did "too big to fail" and said, "I've abandoned free market principles in order to save the free market," you're telling me that it was a free market decision? Please, enlighten me as to how government impositions and interference constitute a "free market," especially since that term means a market free of exactly those kinds of government regulations, interference, and impositions.

sure, repeal of glass stegall exacerbated. Allowing banks to combine investment activity was just frankly idiotic, immoral and stupid.

But the fact that banks were able to buy investements contributed only in a minor way to the huge housing bubble that was the cause of the 2008 recession.

Too much money chasing returns. That money would have flowed even if the banks had to create off-account corporations to do so. G/S repeal just made it easier.

mnottertail -> RE: Republican Agenda (12/5/2013 1:49:13 PM)

Entirely nutsacker endeavors, at the sniveling and and corporate ass snuffing level.

mussorgsky -> RE: Republican Agenda (12/5/2013 2:46:44 PM)

mnottertail: So... you seem to be of the opinion that putting up a bunch of hollow posts that do nothing besides call names means, what, that you win? Sure! Here's your trophy. Go polish it while the intellectually mature people have a conversation.

I don't really care if you agree with anything I say or not, just be a big enough person to actually put up real arguments, not a bunch of empty ad hominum responses. I've met more than enough socialists, communists, and general statists but most of them can at least pose rational arguments and respond in kind to mine. What do you gain by your words other than a well-deserved reputation? I can see from your postings elsewhere on this forum that your postings lack any sort of substance, something which I suspect is all too keen a reflection on you as a person.

mussorgsky -> RE: Republican Agenda (12/5/2013 5:04:48 PM)

Since I have a feeling the response to the above will be something along the lines of "government shouldn't get in the way of a woman getting an abortion/it's her body" and so forth...

This is why people like me oppose any and all government mandates, regulations, and intrusions on healthcare. Just because some support an idea (in this case, these types of ultrasounds as a prerequisite for an OPTIONAL procedure) does not mean that the rest of us support it nor does it mean that they should force that idea on everyone else. But, hey, now that we've all got the federal government running healthcare this might go away... until other morons get elected and use the power taken by this current crop of bozos and use it to impose things you don't like. I'm not exactly sure why that ultrasound/abortion bill was written that way but I can understand why women would be opposed to it. But, as usual, the problem is that the government has taken/is taking this kind of power when it is anathema to freedom and everything America used to be.

Well said.

I think they wrote it that way to try and stop people from having abortions. They don't seem to understand that by the time a women has reached the point where she is going to have an abortion she isn't likely to change her mind because of another procedure. It's intrusive and wrong but that still doesn't make it the same as sodomy. But some people can't seem to make an argument without lying so here we are.

mussorgsky -> RE: Republican Agenda (12/5/2013 6:00:18 PM)

Frankly, I think you folks are debating the wrong issue; words have meanings but this has devolved into pedantry. Instead of debating what constitutes rape, sodomy, or whatever, perhaps we can return to the actual issue that started all of this. Or you lot can go back to what you were doing and the rest of us can chuckle.

Good point I think it started with the op claiming that doonesbury somehow represents the republican agenda. Not to sure how logical that is so perhaps the op can explain.

Marc2b -> RE: Republican Agenda (12/6/2013 6:56:29 AM)

General reply.

My thoughts on the "ultrasound equals rape" debate.

It is over the top to equate the requirement for a vaginal ultrasound, prior to receiving an abortion, to rape.
A medical procedure does not equate to the horror of being physically assaulted.

However . . .

The fact that this is required of women in order to get an abortion is a violation of women's rights and a degrading one at that. To compare it to having a doctor use a tongue depressor on you is colossally ignorant. Telling women that at any point they can say "I don't want the procedure," and walk away is equally ignorant since that means they don't get the abortion. People should not have to walk away from their rights in order to preserve their dignity.

FR,

This thread is locked for review.

VideoAdminChi -> RE: Republican Agenda (12/6/2013 11:29:12 AM)

This thread has reached the maximum amount of personal attacks and will remain locked.

Additionally, exactly the sort of derail I talked about here occurred:

http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=4575064

As discussed in the unlocked thread, Re: An update on posting style, starting http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=4556393 , the guidance regarding not making other posters the topic has been modified to "not hijacking the thread with making other posters the topic" / "not being disruptive by making other posters the topic." In other words, a little back and forth between members (that is not personal attacks) is fine, but if it hijacks the thread, action will be taken, as has always been the case for hijacks.

Stay tuned for gold letters.

If any of you would like your ultrasound posts back to post on a new thread, please write me. However, the vast majority of the deleted posts were mudslinging or rehashing (these were deleted because they were in reply to a post that required removal.)

Best,

Chi
