Yes, mens' attire back then was VERY nice.

I agree about the pointy bras. But the stockings and the knicks - (are they 'camiknicks'?) they were just fab.

I like the men's attire, too. I went to a friend's surprise birthday party a while ago - it was 1940s themed and we were all asked (by the man-of-the-day's GF) to be appropriately outfitted. Hell I'd love one of those military greatcoats. And one of those hats, which I'd wear at what I understand was considered to be a 'rakish angle'. Hoh yes.

grrrrrrr I love stockings but rarely find a pair that fit just right.

My man requires me to wear stockings (and garters) and after much trial and error, I found these, which work so much better than those with the stay-up bands:

I'm a big fan of 1940's clothing. The tailoring of that era was very form flattering and I have several 1940's vintage and retro dresses, blouses, and skirts in My closet. Yes, I wear them in public.

It's funny you should post this now. I've been perusing the internet all week for a 1940's bra in My size. The cut of the bra will better compliment the 1940's clothing it is worn under than modern bras.

I'm actually planning a 1940's Pinup photo shoot with a sub or two I know. One in particular is of short stature, slim build, and soft features that could be adapted--with minor effort--to pass for a woman in public.
On Wednesday W/we went to a large departments store where I helped him pick out a full makeup ensemble to compliment his complexion...and then ABANDONED HIM at the crowded checkout line. Oh, didn't he SQUEAK INDIGNANTLY afterward about how HUMILIATING the experience was!!! *EVIL GRIN*

I've been watching 'The Bomb Girls' series and there are lots of scenes of women in their underwear as they change for their shift in the bomb-making factory in WW2-period Canada.

I've concluded that all women should wear 1940s underwear.

That's it. Get to it and post the pictures soonest. I don't like to be kept waiting.

Yeah, I've always liked that 1940's style of women's dress.
One woman in particular who I think really stands out in that era was Lauren Bacall.
She always seemed to wear such well tailored jackets, dresses, blouses etc. Really sharp.
And the hats that women wore in those days were really interesting too!
Ok, Ladies, get dressed up in your finest 1940's clothes and post plenty of pics!

After seeing this thread I downloaded and am now watching the series. Loving the outfits, the undies and the drama![image]http://bloody-disgusting.com/photosizer/upload/dita-von-teese-083111.jpg[/image]

Dita Von Teese has the right figure for this sort of stuff.

DIta is classic all the way:)
Thanks Kali, I have a couple of pairs of those on hand:) I hate the stay ups, cos they dont on my legs:) I dislike pantyhose with a passion, except as bondage attire but I do like the garterbelt and stocking sensation, oh and the more garter straps the better.

I love the ones with all the garter straps.

Lucylastic -> RE: 1940s Female Underwear. (11/27/2013 3:05:47 AM)

It certainly gets the attention it deserves:)

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: 1940s Female Underwear. (11/27/2013 3:21:55 AM)

I like how they look but I also like the functionality. The ones with only 2 straps per leg don't work unless you never move.

MariaB -> RE: 1940s Female Underwear. (11/27/2013 7:26:39 AM)

When I was in my teens I used to go to charity shops and buy those old half-bustiers and girdles. People used to clear out grandmas old closet and either chuck this stuff in the bin or put it all in a big black bin liner and leave it at Oxfams door. Now its just about impossible to get hold of the original stuff but if you do, its so tiny that its unlikely to fit all but the smallest amongst us. A few years ago I picked up a Victorian hip corset which had the attachment for the bustle. According to the charity shop assistant, they have antique traders that get this stuff set aside. This hip corset had a 22 inch waist and 30 inch hips [&o] which meant it was never going to fit me. Even so, I had to have it, especially as it was only £5.

What I really love is the old style cameo knickers and the proper silk stockings and of course the proper suspender belts. Fortunately more and more burlesque undies shops are reproducing some really good stuff. I recently spotted a modern girdle which had been made to an original pattern and had about 50 little eyelet fasteners. Its all so feminine!

Speaking of "Bomb Girls" ... ran across a reference for a made for TV movie:

Both good and bad news for me - I hadn't realised that the show's next series had been cancelled.

LittleGirlHeart -> RE: 1940s Female Underwear. (11/27/2013 4:43:02 PM)

i don't see what people think is so sexy about that look. she's pretty yes, bt the clothing, i think it's rather fuddy duddy looking, but more powert to those who think it's sexy. i guess.

Er . . . in what way don't they work? Do they shift into uncomfortable positions, or start thwacking against the thighs?

PeonForHer -> RE: 1940s Female Underwear. (11/27/2013 5:25:25 PM)

Those knickers let her down, IMO. She needs proper cami knickers.

Actually, a lot of the modern-day outfits are good in all ways except on the cami knick front. Even the von-Teese ensembles shown so far could be improved on that score, I think.

Markedly better. ;-). Though not too many frills. I'm not a frills sort of chap.
