To pray for some of the more fundamentalist christians in my state to lose the power of speech.

New science books approved for Texas classrooms

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- The Texas Board of Education has approved new science textbooks for use in classrooms statewide.

But its social conservative members blocked authorizing one major biology book because of concerns about how it taught evolution.

That book will be reviewed by outside experts chosen by three board members.

I am a Christian, but come on, these people are giving Christians a bad name.... They are giving Christ a bad name.

I wish I knew why so many people of faith have decided to dump their common sense in exchange for intellectual obscurity. Didn't someone once say that faith and reason are like the shoes on your feet...you can go much further with both than just one?

Short answer, jlf...

(IMO) It would be wrong for you to pray for their silence but it would be fine for you to pray for their eventual enlightenment via the truth.

IMO these people are so far from the truth found in the bible, in logic, in intellect, in science that they would not know a message from God if he smacked them on the head with a burning bush.

In my opinion it would not be wrong to pray for that but it is unnecessary.
Because of ideas like this their speech is already losing power and it seems to have less and less power everyday.
I am a Christian also and I believe that Christians like these will be their own undoing.

This would just be funny (except for biology students in Texas) if it didn't feed into a more general political belief that evidence-based scientific facts can simply be declared invalid by statute, and reality will co-operate.

Unfortunately, microbes continue to evolve even in Texas, and global temperatures continue to rise regardless of Big Oil lobbying. Making it officially untrue only makes the problems worse.

I am reluctant to raise the issue of conspiracy here but this anti-Darwinism activity in Texas and elsewhere is supported by The Discovery Institute. Have a look at their website here The DI was very active in the failed attempt to wedge in the concept of Intelligent Design (Creationism) into the Biology curriculum of the Dover, PA. schools. An account of the court case is available here
