It's hilarious how full of shit the right wingers are. How many millions of seniors are on Medicare? Does anybody really think if any significant part of that group had trouble seeing doctors that it would not be a huge deal? Some reporter might be able to go out and find some doctor that says they don't but the guy next door will and so will most every other doctor.

None have any trouble seeing any doctor they need. If there really was a problem it would be all over the news not some bullshit scare story that found a doctor in Manhattan who was "reducing" the services he provides to Medicare patients.

Problems with a Democratic program in Texas? Who'd 'a thunk? And the doctor's association 'estimates' the problem is much bigger? Might they have a dog in the fight?? My family grew up in Texas, Grandfather had the first automobile in the State, drove it across Oklahoma from the St. Louis rail head, before actual roads. He was the county tax collector during the Depression. We Know Texas. Dad always said, "Texas is a good place to be from, far from." But LA was a much nicer place then. Specialists with more business than they can handle are particular here. Duh. Most find the insurance mandated multiple visits (Evaluation has to be a separate Day than treatment!) more than compensate for the low Medicare scale. Most are Very good at keeping non-procedure visits under 15 minutes. Some procedure visits have been even shorter than consultations. My clinic MD has no problem getting me into any specialist we've needed in a normal time yet. I'm Medicare/Hawaii Quest. As bureaucratic as it gets. Couldn't be simpler from my end. All the offices I've visited, once things got straightened out when I enrolled, simply file the paperwork and collect in due course. Given the percentage of the population now on Medicare, who can afford to blow off all those patients? When a larger percentage of MDs only take a smaller percentage of the population, they'd better be loaded? Last I looked, most insurance programs didn't pay much more than Medicare? Rich people are the Least likely to be uncovered? I googled the thread issue and most of the links turned out to be the PBS program that concluded most areas are fine, a few are problematic. JUST like every other issue. The bigger issue is long standing and getting worse, the US simply doesn't have enough GPs and is graduating fewer still. Without foreign MDs qualifying for many openings, our dysfunctional medical system would be even more expensive and even less competitive with the rest of the First World than it is.

The government keeps cutting reimbursement. Physicians salaries are down. Their costs are up. The hassle of dealing with Medicare are simply not worth it. In florida, malpractice insurance for obgyn's costs $275,000 per year. The average cost to defend a lawsuit takes 4 years and $100,000. I know domken derides the TortReform in Texas - but insurance premiums for doctors dropped 40%. This is why so many doctors are electing to go without insurance, and to not accept medicare. The dimocrats think that they can mandate how much doctors can work for - and are then surprised when people leave the field in droves. What else contributes: We graduate more women than we used to. Sounds good except that, on average female doctors have less than half the billable hours than male doctors.
