It's hilarious how full of shit the right wingers are.

How many millions of seniors are on Medicare? Does anybody really think if any significant part of that group had trouble seeing doctors that it would not be a huge deal? Some reporter might be able to go out and find some doctor that says they don't but the guy next door will and so will most every other doctor.

Way to avoid actually having to look outside your preconceptions.
I really encourage you to try google. I know its a new thing - but you just might like it.

I suggest googling"seniors having trouble finding medicare doctors". Since you seem unaware of the issue.

Or he could look at the links provided but why bother when it's so much easier to just keep slinging mud and hoping something sticks.

Bullshit!
Get this through your skull, I'm on Medicare I know dozens of people on Medicare. None have any trouble seeing any doctor they need.

If there really was a problem it would be all over the news not some bullshit scare story that found a doctor in Manhattan who was "reducing" the services he provides to Medicare patients.

Because they are? These lies about doctors not taking Medicare are without any factual support. I've seen a lot of doctors since I got sick and not a single one has ever not taken Medicare. I've asked other people on Medicare and no one has ever been turned away because the doctor doesn't take Medicare.
The actual facts are that Medicare reimbursements are often higher than HMO reimbursements and get paid more promptly and with less interference and paperwork.

Prove that Medicare reimbursements are often higher than HMO reimbursements, and, please do show how much of our health care industry is through an HMO.

Medicare pays just over $200 for each of my dialysis treatments, I pay 20% or $50. The guy who sits next to me is in a Blue Cross HMO and they pay $175, roughly, and the billing department is always sending him complaints that the payments are not received or are being contested.

Idiocy. It is all over the news. I've given you links multiple times now. Hundreds and thousands of stories of people having trouble finding medicare doctors.

epiphiny43 -> RE: Jesus Christ, what's next, they can vote too? (12/3/2013 1:04:37 AM)

Problems with a Democratic program in Texas? Who'd 'a thunk? And the doctor's association 'estimates' the problem is much bigger? Might they have a dog in the fight??
My family grew up in Texas, Grandfather had the first automobile in the State, drove it across Oklahoma from the St. Louis rail head, before actual roads. He was the county tax collector during the Depression. We Know Texas. Dad always said, "Texas is a good place to be from, far from." But LA was a much nicer place then.

Specialists with more business than they can handle are particular here. Duh. Most find the insurance mandated multiple visits (Evaluation has to be a separate Day than treatment!) more than compensate for the low Medicare scale. Most are Very good at keeping non-procedure visits under 15 minutes. Some procedure visits have been even shorter than consultations. My clinic MD has no problem getting me into any specialist we've needed in a normal time yet. I'm Medicare/Hawaii Quest. As bureaucratic as it gets. Couldn't be simpler from my end. All the offices I've visited, once things got straightened out when I enrolled, simply file the paperwork and collect in due course.
Given the percentage of the population now on Medicare, who can afford to blow off all those patients? When a larger percentage of MDs only take a smaller percentage of the population, they'd better be loaded? Last I looked, most insurance programs didn't pay much more than Medicare? Rich people are the Least likely to be uncovered?
I googled the thread issue and most of the links turned out to be the PBS program that concluded most areas are fine, a few are problematic. JUST like every other issue.
The bigger issue is long standing and getting worse, the US simply doesn't have enough GPs and is graduating fewer still. Without foreign MDs qualifying for many openings, our dysfunctional medical system would be even more expensive and even less competitive with the rest of the First World than it is.

This is a serious problem. My first PCP retired and I hated the doctor who bought his practice. finding a new PCP was a bit of a bother, not because of what insurance they took but because so many were not taking any new patients at all.

So you can see the forest, but not the tree. A shortage of doctors will happen - its just not happening now.
Got it.

The irony of the situation abounds.

More than half of all doctors surveyed (57%) would not recommend med school. http://www.askmen.com/money/career_200/210_career.html

Why do you think that is - well lets see

Medical reimbursement rates are driven by medicare. The government keeps cutting reimbursement.

Physicians salaries are down. Their costs are up. The hassle of dealing with Medicare are simply not worth it.
In florida, malpractice insurance for obgyn's costs $275,000 per year.

The average cost to defend a lawsuit takes 4 years and $100,000.

I know domken derides the TortReform in Texas - but insurance premiums for doctors dropped 40%.

This is why so many doctors are electing to go without insurance, and to not accept medicare.

The dimocrats think that they can mandate how much doctors can work for - and are then surprised when people leave the field in droves.

What else contributes:

We graduate more women than we used to. Sounds good except that, on average female doctors have less than half the billable hours than male doctors. Some silly thing about once they are financially secure they want a family.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Frankly, democrats are causing the implosion of this country.
Got it.
There is a shortage of one specialty because there is an institutional, med school and internship, bias against it. There are actually too many doctors. You blathering of long debunked right wing lies just goes to prove you are nothing but a FNC drone.
Well at least I don't attribute your idiocy to MSNBC. I lay it properly - with you.
Just for curiousity - who are you to say there are too many doctors. Or to few for that matter.
I'm just wondering in what stupid universe does a statement like that actually have any meaning. Its not for you to decide how many doctors are the right number. Nor is it for the government to decide - or the AMA to decide.
Its up to each person who makes the choice to enter medicine - or not enter medice.
The Medicaide problem IS on the news. Just not on your MSNBC.
Medicaid is not Medicare. Two different programs and there are doctors in states with bad Medicaid programs who don't take it.
