Maybe it is a silly question, but is BDSM a legal or an illegal activity in the United Kingdom?

Legal [:)]

I understand the queston but always wonder: How the heck they'd enforce it if it was illegal? By breaking in to people's bedrooms? Maybe they'd just arrest "suspects" on the street? To me, it would be almost as laughable as any law against sodomy between consenting adults in the U.S....

I read the article (scanned it). Well that is just not fair. I  know this kind of mindless persecution still happens in the U.S., too.

At least no one went to jail in that case although a lot of people were very embarrassed.  Imagine being held naked at gunpoint by cops and then having to "claim" your toys at the police station.

The dungeon owner finally pleaded guilty to something like operating an unlicenced club and was fined.

I was pretty active in the Paddleboro movement.  It's handy to have someone in the community who can give his right name during interviews and is willing to be photographed

Hello A.

BDSM in itself isn't illegal.  But there are certain practises that are - or that you can be arrested for.  It is a case of choosing your activity and studying up on it.
The Spanner Trust is a good source and SM Pride is based in Devon.

BDSM isn't illegal but the police can use other laws if they so wish to harry people but most of the cases I am aware of the police end up making themselves look ridiculous. Think about Madam Sin, the police elevated her into a national celebrity and she had two films made about her. She had judges and colonels as clients.

None of the cases I have heard of would make me take a police threat seriously, in fact I would enjoy a day in court because I've got no shame when I think the authorities have wronged me.
