Maybe it is a silly question,but is BDSM a legal or an illegal activity in the United Kingdom?

I understand the queston but always wonder: How the heck they'd enforce it if it was illegal? By breaking in to people's bedrooms? Maybe they'd just arrest "suspects" on the street? To me, it would be almost as laughable as any law against sodomy between consenting adults in the U.S.... - Susan

Hello A. BDSM in itself isn't illegal. But there are certain practises that are - or that you can be arrested for. It is a case of choosing your activity and studying up on it. The Spanner Trust is a good source and SM Pride is based in Devon. Peace and Rapture

BDSM isn't illegal but the police can use other laws if they so wish to harry people but most of the cases I am aware of the police end up making themselves look ridiculous. Think about Madam Sin, the police elevated her into a national celebrity and she had two films made about her. She had judges and colonels as clients. None of the cases I have heard of would make me take a police threat seriously, in fact I would enjoy a day in court because I've got no shame when I think the authorities have wronged me.
