Missokyst -> Fond memories of christmas (11/29/2013 10:59:28 AM)

When I was growing up and there wasn't a huge amount of money around what I remember mostly fondly was the window displays stores put up to entice shoppers to come inside.
I still prefer window shopping.
Here are some recent examples of wonder.

My grandmother was extremely crafty, so even in lean years we always had fun. One of my favorites memories is that we would go to Hartford to see Constitution Plaza.

Growing up in NYC, we would walk down Fifth Avenue looking at all the windows.

I have always loved Christmas. It is hard for me to hold back once Halloween is over but I manage to hold on until Thanksgiving week before I start hauling out Christmas decorations.

My husband on the other hand hated Christmas when we met. His father worked for an oil company and was always gone. That made his mom very unhappy, they lived in Los Angeles with all of her family in North Carolina and New York. Every Christmas was a huge meltdown from her about how much she hated her life before she drank enough to pass out. Geez with that every year I would hate it too.

Every year we were together he liked it a little more. My joy for the holiday finally won him over, I am not sure when it happened. He told me a few years ago that Christmas was one of his favorite holidays now and he looked forward to it. He even gets up on the roof to string lights! He bought all new strands this year and brought them home as a surprise for me. Yes he loves me <3
