I'm aware that its not generally considered a good idea to leave someone bound, gagged and unsupervised. However, what about ring gags? As long as the ring is securely attached, there seems little risk of it slipping into the throat; and breathing should be reasonably easy. I'm debating if this kind of gag would be feasible for long term wear in my particular scenario, even to possibly sleep in, with no one immediately around to supervise. I'd welcome informed comment.

I would say that being left unsupervised while bound is the biggest issue. As long as the gag doesn't lock, being left *just* gagged doesn't matter no matter what kind of gag you use, they can remove it themselves. But being left bound could result in falls, nerve damage, and extreme boredom.

That said, were I on the receiving end of this, I wouldn't want to be made to wear a ring gag for a full night, or even a few hours. Ever woken up after a few hours with your mouth open? Enjoy that dry, cracking feeling that goes all the way down your throat?

Are you wanting to do this to yourself? or are you asking about a partner tying a sub up with a ring gag in and then leaving him/her alone?

If its the first, fine, but I wouldn't recommend putting yourself is self bondage.
If its the later, no, its not safe. When you are playing with gags, the submissive needs a way to communicate if its all getting too much. If he's tied up and gagged and left alone, there is no way he can safeword or signal for help if needed. All gags, including ring gags carry a risk of suffocation. Gags make a person salivate and swallowing sliver isn't easy when the mouth is wide open. Throwing up is another problem because throwing up requires your full concentration (strange as that sounds) and throwing up with your mouth wide open, even if there is an exit route, could be very risky.

Well, not knowing what a ring gag is and, knowing that I'm a (really) HUUUUUGE fan of breathing....I'd say some education was called for.

(And for the record....if you bound me up and gagged me and then left me.....I wouldn't give a shit if you looked like Pamela Anderson on a good day....when it was over....I'd fucking hunt you down....and hurt you).

Well I can't see how someone would manage to aspirate with a ring gag but I'd still worry about cramping and muscle spasms. I suppose it's the sort of thing one might be able to work up to but most probably wouldn't and shouldn't try.

Honestly I've always found ring gags easy to dislodge and spit out anyway, but maybe that's just me or the quality ring gag I've been exposed to.

It really depends on the ring gag. I could write an entire paper, just on the gag, but in a nutshell: You have all kinds of gags. Bit, ball, muzzles, inflatable, etc. Take ring for example. There are two types, simple and sadistic. Simple tend to be moderate diameters, thick gauges, sometimes wrapped in leather. These are meant more to keep the mouth open and get that drool factor going, let the tongue loll. The sadistic one are larger diameter, pushing the limits of the open mouth, thinner gauge, bare metal. These are more for forcing "things" into the mouth

That's similar to the kind I have kalikshama, I found the leather at the ring crumpled and you could just flip the ring flat in your mouth using your tongue and jaw.

well, sadistic gags, are easiest to shop by diameter honestly. Because it is very easy to go from uncomfortable to hospital visit, heh. To explain, the nature of the way the human jaw works, it is easier to wedge a large diameter ring into position, forcing the jaw uncomfortably open, than it is to get it back out again (well, without pain to clarify). Since everyone can open their mouth to different sizes, just find out what that is, then shop around for ring gags that get there. Keep in mind, you can go for ring, tube (even more uncomfortable because these push at the teeth not behind them), or inflatable. Now the other way to go is measure the internal diameter, for the well, "insertable" purpose. This is because the inner diameter will restrict the outer and unfortunately give you a starting point, good or bad. As for some good suggestions on shops, JT stockroom is a bit limited on ring gags, but high quality, Extreme Restraints a little better on choice. Most likely though if you have an odd diameter, you are gonna have to shop around a bit
