Just sharing a cute doggy moment.

When I took my slave, I inherited a wonderful dog as well. sammie is a pit mix and she is extremely well socialized. She wants to participate in whatever you are doing, including playing with rope as seen below in the photo. She has a working dog's spirit.

But this isn't about rope. To enforce pecking order and a sense of pack, she saves a tiny portion of food and shares it with the dog when she is done eating. She makes the dog sit, give a paw etc. Then feeds her the treat. The dog eats things I never saw a dog eat before . . . like raw carrots.

So I was laying down on the bed eating a spinach salad. Near the end, the dog's ears perked up. I've seen her eat carrots so I asked if she wanted some and gave her a piece. I'll be damned, the dog took the spinach and carefully chewing it, she laid down (out of sight) and ate it. And so it went for about 20 pieces or so. Finishing it up, I patted her on the head and got up.

When I got up, there on the floor, which had been out of sight when I was laying down, were all 20 pieces of spinach licked clean and carefully laid out on the carpet. I guess she liked the dressing.

Dogs do the damnedest things.

Cute, thanks for sharing[:D]

2 years ago when I lived briefly at parents place when returning from the UK I made potatoe salad and my cat pepper was begging for food...2-3 times she ate a slice of cooked potato but then she gave up her hopes that something better will follow[:)] Never imagined that either..:

A potato eating cat? I once saw a cat eat canned green beans.

Like the dog sammie, I inherited a cat once. The slave had found the kitten inside the Detroit public library. Someone left the kitten on a shelf among the books. Well, she saw this baby kitten that was so young it still had blue eyes, she rescued although she could barely afford to feed herself (before she met me). She told me of the day they were so broke, she had to share a can of green beans with the cat because that was all there was to eat. Later in life, living high on the hog with me, that cat still liked to eat green beans. But, it wouldn't eat potatoes. LOL

Well, that only happened on those 2-3 occassions...then she stared at me like "You think I'm stupid, I'm not eating more of that, gimme some meat!!!"

These days she is spoiled rotten from my partner and very fussy what to eat...originally it was planned that they live with him until I found my next place to live and I said soon later to him "Be honest...you try to make sure that I can't afford them anymore, once I got my next place...cause I never bought expensive sheba..."

Well...now we live all with him, not just the cats...but we look out to buy them in bulks when they are on offer...

My sister had a Tennessee Walker, Aztec, that ate pepperoni and swiss cheese.

I had a cat that used to walk on my shoulders until I fed him some of the applesauce I was eating or fruit on the bottom yogurt. He also loved to lick the flavoring from BBQ chips.

my westie boy is a real meat-eating kinda guy.

But my bichon girl absolutely loves salad and green veg. When I had house bunnies I used to give them fresh greens and a bit of carrot every night, and the bichon got a bowl too. Otherwise she'd be in there, sharing with the bunnies.

She also loves pickled onions and gherkins. They give her total death-breath, but the joy on her face when I feed her pickles is well worth it! Then she'd climb onto my lap for a tummy rub, which she'd thoroughly enjoy until she gave a huge burp, then she'd climb down and go lie down somewhere for a nap.

I was shocked when I learned the ducks in the pond out front of my old house ate bacon. But a pepperoni and cheese eating horse??? That is amazing.

Onions can cause Hemolytic Anemia in dogs so you should be careful in how many you give her...

I knew a quarter horse that got really insulted when his owner refused to share her sausage pizza with him. Usually well behaved, he started nudging and nipping till she gave him a piece.
Ours weren't much for pizza, except the crust. But he demanded a cup of coffee in the morning before he'd get in the show ring. With sugar, no cream.

And the in-laws Scottish deerhounds patrolled the fence, carefully scarfing down any green bean that grew over on their side of it.

Coffee drinking horses . . . and with a preference for cream no sugar. Dayum! If my dog drank coffee it would make her silly and I am afraid she would end up looking like this.

My cat Highway used to looooove cheese puffs. Found this out because I used to leave a small bowl out when I was watching TV and they started disappearing. Finally, I saw him, and an all-black cat with an orange-smeared face stands out. And he preferred the cheap store brands over the name brand stuff, for some reason. On top of this, he loved peas. Yup. Dropped a couple once and saw him playing with one before eating it. I gave him another, and until the day he died, that cat would beg (in the feline way of course) for peas and cheese puffs whenever they came out. I miss the little guy >sighs<

My ex and I used to have a toy poodle / terrier mix that liked sunflower seeds. He'd crack the hull and eat just the kernel. I was never able to teach him to clean up his cracked hulls after he was done, though.

littlewonder -> RE: -=Dog Salad=- (12/5/2013 8:42:31 PM)

My daughter's cat loves popcorn and chips. We would be sitting on the couch watching a movie and the cat would sit above our heads on the couch with its head facing us and wait until we gave him something. If after awhile you didn't, he'd jump into your lap and meow and meow and walk all over you until you did.

He's now a big, big kitty.

needlesandpins -> RE: -=Dog Salad=- (12/6/2013 2:39:08 AM)

I had a cat that also loved cheesy puffs. she was even particular as to which brand she preferred too. my Arabian stallion would share any meat sandwich I used to take to the yard with me for lunch, but had a particular liking for sausage. he'd also drink fizzy drinks if you poured them into your hand. of and he also liked bacon flavoured corn crisps.

my old dog used to have a plate of sunday lunch made up by my mum for after we had all eaten. he'd have it all set out just as we would too. he'd eat each thing in turn, and in preference except for cauliflower. that stuff got pushed off of the plate onto the floor, and trod on. mum even tried to hide it and con him, but he was having none of it. from then on he had everything but the cauliflower.

my most recently lost guard dog loved raw carrots and potatoes. if the horses got fed carrots then he had to have some too. we kept him off of the spuds because they made him smell awful! if he could steal one though it was gone in double quick time.

just goes to show our animals are as weird and wacky as we are lol

I like that your dog laid the spinach out though. may be she thought you could re-cover it for her with the dressing lol

With care for the human safe foods that are NOT safe for dogs, mine will eat anything I allow. They love veggies and fruits. Then again they've been getting them mixed in with their food since they became my babies. I tend to have very spoilt and healthy fur babies.

I have to put a temporary fence around my raspberry patch during season to keep the dogs out or they will pick and eat them. They will also eat apple that drop off the trees which are forbidden fruits due to the seeds.

igor2003 -> RE: -=Dog Salad=- (12/7/2013 10:23:40 AM)

The same dog I mentioned above about the sunflower seeds would go into our garden and pick green tomatoes and bring them to us...but only because he thought they were balls and he wanted us to throw them for him.
