Born 4.5 Billion BC, Fragmented Nov 28, 2013 (age 4.5-billion yrs old)

Born in a dusty and turbulent environment, comet ISON spent its early years being jostled and struck by siblings both large and small. Surviving a particularly violent first few million years, ISON retreated to the Oort Cloud, where it maintained a largely reclusive existence for nearly four billion years. But around 3-million B.C., a chance encounter with a passing star coerced ISON into undertaking a pioneering career as a Sungrazer. On September 21, 2012, ISON made itself known to us, and allowed us to catalog the most extraordinary part of its spectacular vocational calling.

Personally, I think there was an alien spaceship on the far side of the sun that harvested ISON for fuel for their fusion reactor so they can head out system, and hook up with a larger comet.

But then, I may be crazy.

Dammit. I was hoping for a show. I wonder if it left anything in the way of a debris field on our orbital track, that will at least give us a good meteor storm, somewhere down the road.

If there's a debris field, it will give the scientists a great way to examine what a comet's made of. It did them a favor by dissecting itself on it's yee-haw ride around Sol. If anything gets spit out the other side, they can measure what it was made of.

Darn..I was hoping it would be the second one (humankind is aware of) that would survive a path like that so close to the sun....I can't wait for the next comet to come by us.
