LaTigresse -> RE: NSA collects 5 billion cellphone records every day .... (12/7/2013 10:29:32 AM)

Any government agency or dept of law enforcement can have my phone records. Boring, but there it is.

Why, anyone in their right mind, feels this concept is something new and scary is beyond me. Governments have been spying on their countries populace, and one another, since the beginning of time. Surprise surprise...........not.

Human beings are a deceptive, suspicious and neurotic lot. Companies spy on one another and their employees.......I know mine does. Any woman that can say they've NEVER ever peeked in their SO's wallet or cell phone is lying. Parents spy on their kids only they justify it with other terminology.........I did.

We simply don't want others, especially our elected officials and their minions spying on us. Tough titties. It's gonna happen, deal.

Yes govts are going to spy on their citizens. Does that mean that citizens are obliged to accept such intrusions meekly? Not at all.

Citizens in democracies have the right to tell their Govts that some things are totally unacceptable. Monitoring of private communications between citizens is totally unacceptable and we ought to insist that our Govts recognise this and observe our wishes in this matter. If our current Govt refuses to recognise this then throw them out and elect another one, one that will respect citizens rights to privacy.

A bit of perspective on your bit of perspective.. That kinda hate (against the US) doesn't just happen, it started long ago with the US meddling with the Shah of Iran.. and the continued pushing of Big US Oil (& subsequently Big War) wanting a piece of the action.. that seems to be very conveniently forgotten or ignored or denied.. (and most of those terrorists were Saudis, from a country that was supposed "friends" of the US)..
The US did not meddle with the Shah of Iran, as you put it. The CIA and MI6 overthrew Mosaddeq's government in 1953 (?) over a dispute about oil royalties between Iran and the UK. That being said, drawing a causal line between that event and the attacks on the US in the 1990s and 2001 is an exercise in woo woo history revisionism. There was no revealed connection between the Iranians and OBL. Whatever reason you may wish to present for hatred against America is beside the point of this thread unless you wish to say America should not defend herself against terrorist attacks from abroad. The fact is those attacks came from beyond our borders and so it is reasonable to assume we will build defenses that reach beyond our borders. Not to do so would be an act of malfeasance by our politicians. So, the West lives with our defensive needs just as we provide military assistance for them. And to be honest, Western Europe is not shy about accepting information from our data systems. I suggest your disapproval is short sighted.

Tweak, no pols will stand for election on a policy of blindness to potential terror threats. I hate like hell to go through the bloody security searches at airports. Like it or not, that is the reality of our world. The FBI had evidence of the 9/11 threat. They did not connect the dots, as the saying goes. No one wants to be in that position again. So, the surveillance state has grown. Partly for that reason and partly because the technology allows for it.

It has nothing to do with the importance of the people you called. It is simply stupid to make such ignorant and misinformed comments.

I have reread her post a couple times and I can't find where she suggested that. In fact I think her post was pretty spot on as usual.

"If you have done nothing wrong, there is nothing to worry about."

People that adopt that mindset are going to get what they deserve and I mean that from varying angles. Hopefully one of these days the idiots on this board will connect the dots...I highly doubt it.

Keep drinking that government koolaid from a penis shaped glass!

The Bill of Rights exists to protect the individual citizen from the tyranny of intrusive government. See... oligarchy. See... Patriot Act. I'm with Michael Moore... "Dude, Where's My Country?"

As for the NSA... I had occasion in post 9/11 America, to ask some former NSA staff this question:

"I know you can't tell me what you do or what you know specifically, but is there anything you can say that would help me protect my family?"

The answer... "Without a doubt, every American should own at least one gun and buy as many more as they can."

A bit of perspective please. It was others who crossed US borders and killed 3000 on 9/11. There had been a previous attack on the Towers in 1993. Attacks on two US embassies in Kenya took a serious toll on life. Then we suffered the attack on the USS Cole. All of these from without our borders. Such circumstances make it difficult for the US government to confine its defenses within its borders. Additionally, it is naïve to believe that other nations, friend or foe, do not seek out information on the intentions of the US Government or on the technologies of US Corporations. The world simply does not operate the way you wish it would.

Why are people still writing this kind of nonsense. There is absolutely no doubt 9/11 was inside job (massive data). Also, it is a fact the FBI cooked the bomb used in 1993 attack.
These facts clearly show the enslavement of American population has nothing to do with "others".
