I always enjoy these articles you share, but often I feel like I missed the 101 class and so I'm not really getting the full impact. Can you recommend any books or sites to get me caught up?

Adam and Eve weren't very attractive, were they? Makes you wonder how the human race got off the ground, really.

interesting read. I like all that stuff, so thanks for the share.

Peon, they may not be any great lookers to us, but I wonder if they would also think the same of us were we to meet. as we evolve (I use that term loosely) are we programmed to only find attractive what is around us, or would we think differently had we always been around them?

Nonsense. They had exactly the same idea of aesthetics as we do now. Name me one film set in prehistory in which the women didn't have shaven legs and armpits.

This is really interesting, this is something I have been following for some time.

As to Adam and Eve being not so good looking, to which are you referring?

There is the scientific "Eve" which is an ancient hominid that we all seem to share mitochondrial DNA with, or the first modern humans, which would look pretty much like us?

But then you have the Denisovans, which may or may not have been a hybrid between modern humans and neanderthals, or a separate species altogether.

That's a great question and I don't have a good answer. I can point you to some websites, but they're not Anthropology 101:

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1111/(ISSN)1467-8322

http://www.sciencedaily.com/news/fossils_ruins/anthropology/

I'm sure there are reference books out there, but I don't have a good one. This is a field that has had so many major breaks in the last year anything I could recommend would be outdated.

Maybe ask your local librarian?

I think that's a problem with reference books in any research field - by the time they hit the shelves they're already out of date.

Thanks for the sites. I will keep an eye out at the library, but our local library is basically a tin hut containing four romance novels and an autobiography of a footballer, so I don't hold much hope.

Actually, now that I think of it, I seem to think there were some anthropology lectures from somewhere like MIT free online, so I'll hunt those down.
