The virus isn't strictly from porn, so there's not much reason to be embarrassed.

One of the agents at my host agency opened an email to her business email that downloaded a similar virus. It tried to extort money and started erasing files when it wasn't paid. Luckily, we have a good IT guy that managed to cut it off before it got too far.

Yes that is exact same virus... only difference being wording interchange of FBI / RCMP.

Suspect it is from Europe due to choice of words and the total lack of awareness of Canadian terminology.

Thank You very much for the tips and suggestions :-) In hindsight i wish i had followed the SAFE MODE process first time.

Your best bet would have been to NOT let the frigging thing onto your machine in the first place!!

Even my kids are computer-savvy enough to be very cautious.

Ah - but do we trust RedMagic enough to actually click those links?

That's actually why I always post links in full text, instead of embedded into other text. No one should have to trust me, nor have to do extra work.

Some of the other comments on the thread are just silly, though. Or, I suppose I should say, clearly not written by people who study attack vectors. It's a much higher priority to install NoScript and to disable Java than it is to run an antivirus program. Clickjacking has gotten extremely sophisticated. But that's all I'll say for now, because I don't feel like getting into a nerdwar today.

EDIT: Here's a post I made about 18 months ago, about security priorities. The program Threatfire is now folded into another program, and I don't consider it a priority anymore, but you should get a general sense of things.

Here's one.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/google-similar-images/

There are others, as well as browser add-ons that allow you to Tineye images in one click.

Ah - but do we trust RedMagic enough to actually click those links?

What a conundrum!

Aha-someone gets the irony!

UPDATE:

I see the scammer has returned and with same tactic. Only aspect that has changed is photo, profile name, etc.

As it is frowned up by powers that be to directly name scammers, con artists and those out to exploit others.... perhaps partial information is acceptable.

Scammer this time is listed as 38 years and from Florida. Part of profile name is [Redacted to remove identifiable partial user name]

A partial user name can still be found. So it's still blacklisting.

Shouldn't you be reporting this to support? On the profile side?

I've had that FBI scam appear on my screen a few times now (though here in the UK we get the 'Europol' variant), always when I've been seeking out invigorating filth to use just before bedtime. No problem at all: I just do Ctrl+ALT+DEL to call up Task Manager, then force-close Firefox. Then I restart Firefox and the page is gone. The first couple of times it happened I did virus scans on my pc, but on neither occasion did the scan find anything.

garebear - when I check with Support, will I find that you have reported this?

Again, you may not blacklist on the forums.

Are you giving odds? I might take some of that action.

[Mod edit to remove identifying information]

I was scammed by ######## on Collarspace and asked to create a profile bdsm date link, as well another one on bdsm.com

This was what she asked me to put on my profile" I am now officially owned by Mistress Yasmin and shall not talk or mingle with other Dominants aside from My Mistress without permission.."

Via skype she then wanted me to pay $100 for a "Slave Licence" to a site in the Philippines www.morbie.com before we were supposedly to meet at her place a random address given in Melbourne 155 LaTrobe St , Melbourne. Once i said i would instead give her the $100 in cash when i saw her she pushed hard for me to send the money using that web site.. I didnt and "she" cut contact So ALL beware

Hahaha, so many things wrong with this and yet, it amuses me to no end. "I WAS (ALMOST) SCAMMED OUT OF A WHOLE HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!!" Really? Kids use that for lunch money nowadays.
1;You didn't pay her.
2;She did the right thing.
3;She might have lied but you definitely did ergo, lack of integrity self admittedly.

It's against the TOS to post my alternate profile on the forums.

Jus sayin

Dammit! I thought that deal was fishy.

Are you at least putting my $100 to good use?

Yep, bought a whole case of wank fodder. Does it get any better than that?

Pfft, why are you buying that? Just get it for free on the forums like everyone else.
