anothernameforme -> sodomy vs vaginal ultrasound (12/9/2013 11:54:39 AM)

i posted a response to a comment in another thread that was pulled and the mods suggested i repost it

the comment was

"And functionally all the tea party guys at the state level have done is pass laws on social issues. Virginia, Ohio and Wisconsin tea party legislatures have all either attempted to or actually passed laws mandating that any woman seeking an abortion must be sodomized before getting the procedure."

this was my response

"i have created a new name because there are people on this site who don't know about my history and while i know i will have to tell them eventually this isn't the time

however after reading your posts i cannot in good consience stay quiet

i was raped the bastard held a knife to my throat and sodomized me
he whispered all kinds of hateful crap in my ear while he was doing it and laughed when i cried
it was the most horrific thing i have had to deal with and it still gives me nightmares

ii have also had a transvaginal ultrasound
i didn't want it but according to the docs it was necessary
it was uncomfortable but no worse than other medical procedure i have had and better than a lot of them

for you to come here and try to claim the two experiences where the same is just ignorant and insensitive
you have no fucking clue what i went through or am still going through

your posts are a slap in the face of any women who has had to deal with rape and i cant belive more people havent called you out on it

i dont know what your agenda is unless you really are that clueless about women but may i suggest you never say this in public where someone might bend you over and teach you what the word rape realy means"

any thoughts on this

do you feel its the same or not and why

Your comment is one of those things too powerful to deny. Good luck to you.

I have many thoughts on this.

1 - you arent the only one who has been raped. Please, dont speak for the rest of us.

2 - having also been attacked, there is a difference, but its not as big as you want to make it out to be

3 - rape is rape... the kind here is the forcing of a woman to take something into her vaginal cavity that she doesnt want there. the kind you describe is a violent act by someone intent on hurting you. do you also call date rape "not real rape"?

4 - rape can come in many, many forms.. it can be the violent, stranger kind. it can be the date who pushes and pressures you into it.. it could be the husband who demands else you and your kids may pay with his anger and sullenness for weeks.

To limit your discussion to only the violent one is a bit disingenuous as well.

Now, having said that, I dont believe the transvaginal ultrasound is that invasive. I do believe I should be able to choose what method of ultrasound I wish to obtain. If I dont want something shoved into my body, be it by a stranger, someone I know, or by the state, than I shouldnt have to have that done to me.

In that way, it is rape.

MsMJAY -> RE: sodomy vs vaginal ultrasound (12/9/2013 2:47:58 PM)

You have my deepest sympathies. I have been a victim of rape also. It was a trauma that still haunts me to this day and one that I am not sure I will ever fully recover from.

If my doctor decides that I need a trans-vaginal ultrasound for a medical reason then that is a choice I make under his or her medical advisement.

If I am forced to have an unnecessary trans-vaginal ultrasound because someone disapproves of the decision I make to have an abortion- then yes; I would consider that a rape.

From a mental and emotional standpoint I do not see it as any different from the son of bitch that took away my choice to say no to something I did not want years ago.

I really think women have enough trouble with rape as it is. We do not need anyone passing laws saying its okay to stick something inside our bodies despite the fact that we neither want nor need it. I wish they would find something else to regulate and stay the hell out of my pussy.

No matter what they call it - an unwanted invasion of my body is rape. (and they know this. They just want to shame and scare women out of having abortions.)

Thanks, you said it better than the response that was forming in my head. And ditto. Unfortunately.

FelineRanger -> RE: sodomy vs vaginal ultrasound (12/9/2013 9:47:41 PM)

anothernameforme, please understand that I am not trying to diminish your experiences in any way. But I do have one question. Any invasive medical procedure requires your written approval and can't just be forced by a doctor. Why have it if you were really that uncomfortable with the test?

DaNewAgeViking -> RE: sodomy vs vaginal ultrasound (12/10/2013 1:00:21 AM)

Any entry into another person's body without their freely given consent is rape - rape with an object in this case. Just because some Neanderthal passes a law requiring women to submit to an ultrasound, it still is rape because her 'consent' was forced. It's the same as imprisonment victims being forced to sign a 'slave contract'. The fact that it is state law doesn't override the fact of non-consent. Those states are setting themselves up for massive civil rights lawsuits, which can't happen any too soon.

Exactly this and more,
Each rape is different, the variables are enormous, and expectations that every rape "victim" feels the same is pointless not to mention, harmful.
millions of women hate having pap smears, internal procedures done, without having been a victim or rape, some who have issues for years after they have been raped, and they consented to having it done, ...for MEDICAL reasons. not morally forced ones touted via right wing fundies

This is why I like seeing more and more women at the shooting range.
Hopefully we'll see more dead rapists and muggers in the news.
