The 1st thing you need is an HDTV. Do you have that? You still have to control it from a smartphone, tablet or computer for it to work. Make sure you can take it back if it doesn't work on your TV set. Even though it's not expensive, relatively speaking, I know being stuck with a useless $35 purchase can be quite frustrating.

Cool! I'm looking for a way to get Netflix into my bedroom and will add the Google Chromecast HDMI Streaming Media Player to the mix. If I didn't want to upgrade my DVD player anyway, that would save me the cost of a "smart" DVD player and a HDMI cable.

Chris - did you make sure your current TV has an HDMI port?
