LorraineCA -> Drug Abuse (12/11/2013 10:19:18 PM)

It seems to me that everyone I meet have drug related issues. I always thought it's because of the area I live in. I was wondering if other people are experiencing the same thing?

myotherself -> RE: Drug Abuse (12/11/2013 11:15:45 PM)

Nope, don't know anyone with drug-related issues.

SoulAlloy -> RE: Drug Abuse (12/11/2013 11:44:19 PM)

Nope here too, met very few in my whole life, and can't think of any I've met in the kink world

MistressRENA -> RE: Drug Abuse (12/12/2013 12:35:47 AM)

no, I wouldn't say everyone. I wouldn't even say many. In fact most people I know do not have drug issues.

I find that as time has gone on and my life has changed, so has the type of folk I am around. Maybe it is time to re-evaluate things and surroundings.

Back in the 70s when I was a hippy dippy girl, all my friends did drugs.

Forty years later my life has changed so dramatically from then it's hard to realize I'm the same person.

And guess what? I know no one who does drugs. I don't socialize with people who drink more than a glass of wine or two.

There's a lesson there.

SoulAlloy -> RE: Drug Abuse (12/12/2013 4:19:05 AM)

Though I suppose it depends to an extent what you class as a drug, and what you class as abuse of that.

I know plenty who indulge in nicotine, alcohol, caffeine and some who use poppers, but none I would class as not being in control of those vices.

DesFIP -> RE: Drug Abuse (12/12/2013 1:16:21 PM)

Caffeine is the most heavily used psychotropic drug in the world.
Somehow though, I don't think the op is referring to this.

Unfortunately at your age, there's a lot of experimentation with drugs and alcohol. You're going to have to pick carefully to tell the difference between normal teenage partying and a craving for things that hit the pleasure receptors in the brain.

Same here, back in the late 80's and early 90's when I was a teenager all my friends were hard core partiers. Today I do not associate with anyone who does drugs and a hard core party involved two drinks instead of one.
My husband and I are both proof that a person can be wild in their youth and turn into those boring adults we made fun of as kids :)

DesFIP -> RE: Drug Abuse (12/12/2013 7:25:14 PM)

If you're drinking two drinks, then yes, you are a hard core party girl.
I am ashamed to admit that my oldest bought a new variety of hard cider and gave me one whole ounce to taste. And yes, it hit hard.
Now that's shameful!

muhly22222 -> RE: Drug Abuse (12/12/2013 7:36:27 PM)

FR

I meet a lot of people with drug issues, too, but that's a function of my job more than my choice. I've never met anybody off of here who had a drug issue, at least not one that I could tell.

littlewonder -> RE: Drug Abuse (12/12/2013 9:24:19 PM)

Nope, can't say I do.

It seems that you have trouble meeting and choosing the right men. It may be time to look at the type of people you find attractive and why you choose the men you do. Maybe it's time to start choosing a new crowd of friends or places.

If normal teenage partying ISN'T hitting the pleasure receptors in the brain, they are doing it wrong.

BecomingV -> RE: Drug Abuse (12/12/2013 10:41:49 PM)

I was born in Philly but have lived in many states and in different countries. My family was fairly split in public service jobs; the women in medicine and the men in government. So, growing up, I heard about drugs a lot at the dinner table, but the stories were of emergency rooms and housing fires and criminal justice consequences. "We" didn't associate with "those" people.

Decades later... I moved to Florida. LOL Talk about a rabbit hole! Yes, geography can matter. Now, I'd say that most people I know are 420 friendly. However, I think that crowd is out-shadowed by the drinkers, who are out-shadowed by those on the best marketed psych med of the day.

It's said that people won't act outside of their identity. I think that is true. I still find that while I can find ethical and enjoyable company in people who use drugs (prescribed or not), or alcohol, I still have trust issues with them. I don't really consider them to be "real" friend material. I think that is because of one basic difference... my favorite feelings don't arise from a stimulant.

So, for me, those people are acquaintances. My friends experience life as I do - raw, undiluted and whole.

I think the important part of what I am saying is that I have thought about myself and about how I wish to relate to others. My way works for me beautifully. That means that the statistical view of where ? how many ? which substance? doesn't really matter. It's about choosing your own society. You will come across all kinds of people, but the ones who fit are the ones who stay. It's about choices.

ETA - I am referring to those who abuse drugs, alcohol or prescription meds. I don't mean to include those who have experimented.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Drug Abuse (12/13/2013 5:00:27 AM)

I use to abuse alcohol when I was younger. These days, I take too many pills because of the bipolar, fibromyalgia and gout. I will drink a fuzzy navel wine cooler when I go down to Austin (Lizard keeps a fridge in her room for when she is gaming and she drinks coolers or wine too). The only illegal drug I have done was pot and that was when I turn 25. I think it should be legal for medical purposes.

Coconut rum.. I mix a bit with pineapple juice and those cherries. I love it, I can have two and only get that nice buzzy feel unlike everything else that knocks me on my ass after half a drink.

What are you, European Royalty or something?

ShaharThorne -> RE: Drug Abuse (12/13/2013 8:34:56 AM)

Too much uric acid in the blood. There is a rumor of a Irish lord in the family tree...

lovethyself -> RE: Drug Abuse (12/13/2013 9:19:55 AM)

I think some of it has to do with your age OP. If I looked at who I knew in my early twenties, yeah, a lot of my friends and peers did drugs, myself included. Now? I may know a couple of people that smoke pot on occasion. That's about it.

But, if everyone you're finding has drug related issues, I would suggest looking somewhere else.

What the hell is Gout?

I don't know what that is but I've read about it.
