Words can't express how grateful I am for everyone's support, and I apologize for dropping out of touch.
On October 14th, a team of surgeons and robots removed my rectal tumor. They're pretty confident they got it all--with "clean margins," as they say.
Over the next few weeks, when I should have been recuperating, I found myself growing weaker instead. And I began passing a truly foul-smelling fluid. Think of your least favorite cheese, left out in the sun for a few hours. That's how I smelled.
Long story short, cutting the cancer out had allowed E. coli to sneak in. My oncologist took one look and admitted to Georgetown Hospital for IV. Exciting way to spend my 50th birthday, no? And, a few days later, Thanksgiving.
Happily, I'm now home and have returned to work part-time. I was deeply moved by the warm reception I got and my employer's going the extra mile to help me out.
