Thats just beeing a jerk(the part in red though the entire post screams jerk to me)

I think you read a different post than I did. I didn't get that perception at all from Crappy's post. Are you sure you're not having a knee-jerk reaction because of Crappy's reputation rather than a sincere reaction to the words he actually wrote?

"I have struggled with who carries the toy bag, do I have her do it as "service" or do I, as the man, do it? "

What it is about that sentence that turns a man's struggle into a jerk post? Seems to be a very honest question and one which I would imagine many male dominants have asked themselves.

"If you are sitting on a bus and woman steps up and there are no seats, you stand up and offer her yours."

What about this one? What do you find offensive enough to state that the entire post screams 'jerk' to you?

"While I am always willing to give the benefit to the doubt to someone who applies common sense to something inappropriate, it doesn't mean that having a solid common sense will allow you to float through the scene as things are often upside down or not what they appear."

What is the problem you have with this part of the post? I find it thoughtful and provoking and very pertinent to what we, as a whole society, have pounded into us almost from birth.

If you're a man you should do this .. if you are a woman, you should expect that...

Then you discover BDSM and a lot of perceptions are, as Crappy so eloquently stated, turned completely upside down. It can take a while to get things straight in your own head and then apply them to the life you wish to lead.

It seems as if you took one or two sentences (out of context) to apply your reaction. Would you consider rereading the post and see if you get the same sort of reaction to it?

Do people just get so caught up in it that their judgements get clouded?

yes, it is something like that. Newbie frenzy too. Yeah, when the brain drains of blood ;) common sense can also go down the drain.

Connecting the dots.....

Using fast reply, this is a generic question to anyone.  There was recently a thread on this forum about humility.  And it seemed the overwhelming response was that humility was a good virtue.  So I ask here in this thread, what is the purpose for pointing out another's stupidity?  It is an expression of humility?

Maybe that is my hang up here.  I certainly have eyes that see stupidity.  I just do not understand the need to constantly point it out.

I will point out once again....

For the record...I am not calling anyone stupid. I was asking if you believe that there is truth in the saying "Stupid is as stupid does" or what it is that you personally attribute to the seeming lack or loss of common sense by intelligent people.

My question was a "generic question to anyone" with no reference to you whatsoever. You had already answered it at the bottom of the 3rd page of this thread, after much discussion was underway.  No, you did not say anyone is stupid.  One can imply things without saying things, so perhaps I misunderstood the implications of what you were saying?  However your very first sentence of your OP referred to "seemingly intelligent people as not having one ounce of common sense" on a threat about stupidity.  What else would I infer?

Regardless, thanks for clearing it up.

Well erin ... I deeply resent any implication that my past relation with men might be categorized as "stupid", when everyone knows that to date, they haven't even come close to breaking the "moronic" barrier. [;)]

The person who used the phrase "suck it up" was not making that statement personally but using it as an example of what someone might say who is convincing someone to take abuse because it's accepted as "part of the lifetyle".  So calm down, dear, smooth your hackles back down.  lol.  It was only a hypothetical statement.

LOL yeah  I know.. it wasn't directed at anyone one person..

Was trying to block something that happened anyways... nice seeing you again Carolsea.... been awhile..

Instead of inferring anything, wouldn't it be much easier to simply respond to what was actually asked?

It would be even easier, of ops did not insist on using leading and judgemental statements in the opening paragraphs.

Um, I did.  Your OP asked for thoughts and I gave mine.  It was only after it appeared I was misinterpreting that I asked. That's the trick of communication - sometimes there is MIScommunication and no one knows it until midstream...so they ask...which is what I did.
