i live on the southwest side (in a rental unit) which means my landlord might up the rent for a basement flat. sheeeeeesh someone should assess the properties where da mayor lives and up his property taxes. STOP taxing the hard working middle class and tax the those who live along the Gold Coast

it's already expensive to drive due to high gas prices ...the public trans raised fares claiming they need the money ...and now this - makes me want to move to the suburbs

i wanted acreage. 4-10 acres. now with acid rain up 4% in one year- i wonder. tho it istn as tho i seen any i can afford yet

I settled for a piece of shit $27,000 studio condo. Over the next 5 years I bought 6 more, converted those all into a small piece of commercial property (at a price that was at least twice what it was worth and 20 times what I felt I could afford) and at no time was I convinced I wasn't about to go bankrupt. I moved from New Hampshire (A very high property tax state) to Myrtle Beach, SC two years ago this Sept. My property taxes went from $3,800 per year to $467 per year! I bought a brandnew 3 b/r, 2 full bath, 1300 sq. ft. condo on a golf course pre-construction for $84k. Then another in the same development for $97k pre-construction (now rented out) and they now go for about $165k! I LOVE S.Carolina! And as a bonus this past Jan. my heating/ electric bill was $84.! It'd be $400 up in N.H. And if these condos were in New England they'd go for $300-$350k! Plus we have 60 miles of warm water sand beaches, 110 golf courses, 3200 restaurants and numerous shows and concerts that come to town. And the county just voted to keep taxes at current levels! You guys ever been to Myrtle Beach?

LTR, come on down. There's a bunch of people from up North and even Calif moving here to get away from the high prices! You can get a new 3 b/r 2 bath house with 2 car garage for $200k here. The same thing up North would cost you $5-700k!

Hahahahahahahahaha....I bought my most recent not quite 4 years ago for 400...the neighbors house (smaller, not as nice) just sold for 755. I'm gonna stick around here for another 3 - 5 and then head to Kansas City. 5 lanes in all directions and half the traffic load we have in Seattle at 4 lanes. (My taxes last year were over $5,700.00...that's just stupid)

The ''peasant'' had the privilege {Free people have rights, slaves have privileges} of occupying the land. In return for that privilege the peasant paid the ''feudal master'' rent, and the peasant could be kicked off that land at the pleasure of the feudal master. What we see happening today is not a whole lot different than what originated prior to the Renaissance. Since we don't have what's known as a *''Allodial title''* to the property, we're essentially occupying that property as a ''privilege'', in much the same relationship as that of peasant vis-à-vis the feudal master. If anyone doubts this…just stop paying your property taxes and see what happens. HAR! It's nothing more than a draconian form of control. They could tax you solely by method of payroll withholding, and then distribute the revenue to various agencies based on a mathematical formula. They'd save money and shrink the bureaucracy just by eliminating all the different tax collectors and employees. The reason they don’t, is because if the average American ever really saw on paper how much they really get to keep out of each dollar they make, there would be a revolt in the streets that would make the Boston Tea Party look like childs play – Bet! - R

interesting comments on this topic. i did not think new england was a high priced area. $5600.00 in taxes? gag me. what happens when the boomers en mass start retiring? SS wont be enuff for that kind of burden. job well done popeye for measuring your overall quality of life- and doing what is best for you. my brother is leaving chicago metro- as he pretty much has hed it. i told him you wont miss it after a year. and then you will see and be puzzled how the big city goes on and on- with the method of madness. [the suburbs are bad on taxes too, unless you go to harvey or posen...wich believe me- you dont want to be] im not cut out to be a landlord. but in time- ild liek acreage. we will see. i looked at 9 acres in the noorthern tier. it was cloudy and i could not tell if it had a southern exposure. [important to me...] when it did not have DSL- i wrote it off. but now i found a satilite place that does dsl...sorta pricey- but it opens more doors. to the poster encouraging me to own- when i see the diamond in teh ruff i will jump. but knowing how i am -im in no rush to own a money pit. :-)

Hooray for renting my own land from the Gov!!! Maybe I should give them some KY next time they asses my property values.
