It seems that more and more people are getting branded these days. Quite a few years ago, a Mistress friend of mine gave me a letter M branding iron as a gift. It looked similar to a cow prod and the 'M' was crude and thick. Its not something I ever considered using, if I had, I would of created some horrendous scar on someone. Fortunately back then very few people were being branded and so this awful little tool just got put to one side and forgotten about. Now there are lots of good methods of branding. Some cause permanent scars, whilst others are semi permanent and not only submissives/slaves are getting brands, I know plenty of dominants, myself included, that have some fairly elaborate brands. Anyone else here got a brand? if so what method was used and what were the final results? Have you considered getting a brand but not sure where to go? How would you feel about having your Masters/Dommes name (applied by them) on your flesh?

Forgive the pun, but the IDEA of being branded is hot. Just like tattoos, I can't think of one design that I could be forever content with. I'd love to see how others' brands have turned out though.

I was about to say almost exactly what Hlen said. I'd go through it for my husband, since I'm confident we'll be together til one of us croaks it. I know I could trust him to do his homework. In my late teens I was into piercings and seriously considered getting a brand done but I'm glad I never did because, like Hlen said, I think I'd be sick of anything after a few years. I'd be interested in trying a semi-permanent brand but I just don't see it happening. The boss is just not that into it.

Choosing your personal design is the most difficult thing. Having the letters of a loved one is only wise if its a long term relationship like yours Athena. The nice thing about brands is, if done finely, they are easy to disguise with a tattoo. My brands are on my shoulders. I have fleur de lis designs with one brand flowing around the others. They are incredibly fine white lines and only stands out when I get suntanned shoulders. Its much less prominent than a tattoo and not something I can show off during the winter months when my tan disappears! My family and work mates think its a discreet white tattoo and they love it. Not sure what they would think if I told them it was branding!

I have no piercings or tattoos. I don't really like body mods, the only one I would consider is a very discreet brand. The personal design would need to be elegant -- if we went this way I'd most likely design it myself.

That sounds really nice, Maria. Did you have it purely as a body art/mod, or does it have some significance with regard to BDSM/D/s? A girl I once knew had a gorgeous brand of four or five stars - quite thick lines, but extremely neat. She had a sort of olive complexion so they showed up beautifully. The person who did it was extremely skilled (though apparently not particularly sensible, since she was only about 15 and passed as younger). That really made me consider it, but I know my body wouldn't scar that neatly, and I'm ginger so very, very white - probably wouldn't show up that well.

I think it also has to do with the thickness of the lines, as well.

Sansas brand is lovely, though its going to be a lot wider as it heals. Brands have a tendency to grow. The width of the scar is normally 3 to four times the size of the metal that made it. It would be nice to see Sansas brand a year down the line. Spirited, it does take a good year to fully heal and it takes probably a further year for the scar to turn white. Athena, I did have it as a body mods thing and not a BDSM thing. I'm a member of BME and I follow a lot of stuff on that site with great interest. I'm also married to a guy who's very good at branding. RedMagic said I would be running the gauntlet on here if I admitted to branding people! Well here goes [:)]. The first time I ever branded anyone was at a party I was hosting. The guy, not a sub, asked me if I would like to learn how to brand and when my eager reply was 'YES' he took me into the kitchen and showed me his very crude method of branding. He had been branding himself and making random scars for years and now he was allowing me to make a small brand mark on him. Moments after I singed his skin, someone burst into the kitchen and asked if we were cooking bacon!! Steve is a branding and skin removal artist and it was that common interest that initially got us chatting. He taught me how to brand safely with hot steel and how to create the most delicate but permanent scars. I think its a very intimate moment, being branded by the person you love. For me it was always more about the moment rather than the eventual scar. For others its all about the scar and lets get the nasty branding bit over. I suppose we are all different.

Athena, red haired people tend to scar red. Its not a given but if you have a lot of red pigment in your skin, the likelihood is, your brand wouldn't whiten. You can however, have it lightened with ink after its fully healed.

Like you, Maria, a friend gifted Me with a branding design a number of years ago. Mine looks more like a stock brand and is a single strike type. It can be used as either a temp or permanent mark. I've never done that great of a job describing it. When applied, it looks something like a capital "L" with the top part of the "P" attached to the vertical line of the "L". The finished mark allows a person to distinguish both letters joined together and is roughly three inches long. To date, I've only done temporary brands. It's a very simple process and some folks call it creating a 'hot water' mark. Anybody can do it at home. (Might be quite similar to what you mentioned.) As you are aware, whether a brand is going to be temporary or permanent has everything to do with temperature of the metal, if you're applying the metal to the skin. What I haven't done Myself is the method of violet wand branding. Pretty cool stuff, really.

I have four minor brands. It's not a D/s thing. It's related to the spiritual practice I follow. They were all done with metals forged specifically for the purpose, and they are all a constant (and well loved) reminder of my path and where I've been. Each was given in initiation to a new era in my life, each held it's own important significance to my family and what we believe in. I have no regrets. They aren't somewhere people would readily see them (two are about 3 inches bellow my buttocks on either side and the other 2 are on my lower back below the belt line.) so it isn't often something people inquire about. If they do see them and ask questions I just simply say 'it's a spiritual thing' and people are generally satisfied with that answer and don't ask too much more.

I have not branded but I have had done several methods of branding, my first was a cell popping type of brand with simply a hot piece of metal, spirit paper, and a really cool lighter, the 'brander' did a pattern in small dots in a row. The second was when the metal was simply dragged. I have also done the VW branding that LadyPact mentioned, and it was terrible, wonderful, amazing, and the worse idea i ever had. It takes multiple passes, with the VW on as high as possible. It took forever, and a day, and an extra week. It also took the VW off the table for a few months as every time i smelled ozone, i cringed and ran away. It also was temporary (wasn't supposed to be). My next brand will be a mix of cutting and cart pen. The cutting will help minimize how much the brand spreads. Its just finding a local person either professional or kink that i trust to do it. I have not done a hot iron strike and am not interested because of how Ive seen them spread.

The idea of branding fascinates me. A permanent scar on my flesh, his mark? Conceptually, it sounds very appealing. In theory, it sounds intimate and even romantic. And I have seen branding done that looks beautiful, too. However, practically speaking, I am totally terrified about the pain aspect of it, and as such I don't think I want to bring myself to endure that. I don't think my Master would want to put me through that, either. If he did want it, I'd do it for him, but it would NOT be fun and really, neither of us would enjoy the process... So if I will get any permanent marks, they will probably just be simple tattoos. Still, branding is a nice fantasy.

Please please please!!!! If you are considering branding as a form of play be sure to do it the right way. my wife was seeing a Dom who was into fire play and He was an intelligent Man for the most part. He decided to play around with branding one night and used a coathanger and a candle a coathanger that had a coating or paint to keep it from rusting no less. A candle while hot is still a fairly low temp heat source and can produce soot, then you have the coat hanger and the soot left behind by the paint or what ever it is coated with add this all together and the potential for infection skyrockets. Needless to say that even though i cleaned the burns daily and used a good quality burn ointment on them a couple of the burns became infected (He used the hanger as a running iron) and instead of His initials my wife has an ugly scar. So please please if you are thinking of branding as play do some research and do it the right way or leave it to a professional.

I do like the watermark type brands LadyP but I'm not keen on violet wand branding. I like the idea of a brand being done in a very serene environment. Violet wands make too much noise!! The temporary brands I have done are cell popping, though I'm sure you are aware, cell popping on someone like Athena would likely be permanent. Allura, welcome to the forums. You look familiar! perhaps we know one another from another site. Your spiritual path sounds amazing. Just out of interest, how long did the brands just under the buttocks take to heal? SpiritedSub; if you looked at the branding technique on FL, it looks like cell popping but the tool is thicker and the hot rod penetrates deeper. That technique is called 'snake bite' and its permanent. The dots join up because of the extent of the burn but doesn't grow in width. It leaves fine white lines and because its very versatile, you are able to do much more intricate patterns. EventideFortuna, what were the results of having hot metal dragged across your skin? Doesn't the metal cool down too quickly? RasberryLemon, I'm surprised more sub/slave types don't have brands, though I know there are quite a few on the other side. A permanent brand hardly hurts at all. I have tats and they hurt far more than the brands I have had. 2nd degree burns (semi permanent) will hurt like buggery but 3rd degree evaporates the sensitive nerves and so all it should feel like is a warm pinch that only lasts a moment. Saying that, I have never had or done a single strike. A letter S an inch in height would take 4 strikes and the more strikes, the more defined the brand will be and the less it will hurt. I think there is some excellent information on branding online but theres some awful information as well as darn right dangerous. I would always recommend people attend a workshop or go to a professional before sticking hot metal in someone's flesh.
