jlf1961 -> Human Civilizaation is doomed (12/23/2013 2:01:37 PM)

In doing some last minute shopping for items for christmas dinner (what is wrong with Turkey TV dinners?) I had the misfortune to see what teenagers consider appropriate to wear to work, and the fact that the employers seem to think this is okay. In a family grocery store, the cashier was about 17, which means she was probably younger, wearing a see through top under which she had a lace bra.

If it was my daughter, she wouldnt have left the house like that, but then when my daughter's dates picked her up, I was always cleaning fire arms and had one question, "now when will she be home?" She was always home by 10:30. Which was strange cause her curfew was midnite.

The girl bagging groceries had jeans that looked like they barely survived going through a shredder.

At Walmart I saw something I assume was a human female. I mean it was wearing a skirt, with steel toed work boots, black hooded sweatshirt, with face completely hidden behind a mop of hair. I was surprised it never rain into anything.

As for the males, it is clear that they have never heard of a belt, or suspenders, or even a rope tied around their waist to hold pants up. I used to see this look on occasion, but today it was everywhere.

And evidently I saw a goth and emo for the first time. I figure they are just walking dead or something.

*pats you on the head*

Not understanding fashion is one of the things that happens when you get old.

My ex has twin girls. Of course I'd never let the twins out of the house if they dressed that way. I always keep two shotguns. One is for cleaning and the other is for shooting.

OTOH: I am genuinely delighted when I see young women dressed in a way that I would NEVER, EVER, EVER, allow the twins to dress.

Ever been to a sci-fi convention? Every slave-Leiah is hot: unless it's your daughter. Then all the other people stop being admirers and start being threats. And their twins! There ain't enough Hoppe's Number 9 to keep your gun clean.

Just to be honest: neither of them has dressed as slave Leia. I was merely making a point which is: jigf961 is old! However, at some point, I'll have to learn to let go of them. Be warned people: I was a young man once and I know precisely what you intend to do with them. And I always have at least one gun loaded even if I'm cleaning the other one.

Times change. But it's not always a good change.

Everytime I see an emo or goth chick I want to bite them until they cry. Then yell at them "You feel this?".

Stop and remind yourself...."I sound like my mom/dad". [:D]

DesFIP -> RE: Human Civilizaation is doomed (12/23/2013 8:39:40 PM)

Just remember, in thirty years their kids will find pictures of them like this and use it to argue why they can't dress weird.

We live in a college town. The Man's response to kids on the street is like this. Me? I don't even notice them anymore.

Well, lets put it this way, I have been in strip clubs in Vegas and LA and and seen dancers with less revealing clothes on, hell I have seen hookers in those two towns with less showing than some of the stuff I saw today.

I was out with a few friends the other night, and one young (35ish) female friend of mine was complaining about men looking at her chest all night. I bit my tongue, but considering she was wearing a top that had a neck line going almost to her navel, what did she expect to get attention, her left ear?

And no, women who dress provocatively are not asking to be raped.

However, if a woman wants to be looked as more than a piece of meat in a butcher shop, revealing less goes a long way to help.

And teenage girls have no reason to reveal more skin than an LA or Vegas hooker.

and again, your parents were saying the same thing of YOUR generation as a teen.

Human civilization is doomed. But not because teenagers have been taking fashion tips from Madonna for the last 30 years.

I guess I'm lucky in a way............my (first) ex-wife burned all my photographs when she left. I was at sea at the time. So there is no way my son can get a hold on them and use them in evidence against me. The only one he has see is one of me in uniform clutching a sub-machine with a jungle background. His mates at school all thought it was cool. His girlfriends all thought I was weird. If only they had known that look on my face was not to frighten people..............it was because I was probably scared spitless at the time.

Jeff, I don't reveal a lot of skin, and yet I STILL get sized up like a piece of raw meat in a lion's den.
I don't know, it seems like men (can sometimes) forget that we're not always on the menu.
Le sigh.

I was very lucky growing up. My mom figured I might as well have fun while I was in school. The fun included dressing wild at times. Not sure how many are old enough to remember but at one time Cher had her own line of clothing and I owned my fair share of her designs. I fondly remember the top I had covered in blue, green, red, and yellow teardrops, stockings that matched the top, and worn with a little green mini skirt.

I only had boys. My youngest was a clothing junkie. He'd go to school wearing teal jeans, red tee shirt, with a white and orange striped unbuttoned shirt that came down to his knees. The girls swooned over him. They wore baggy pants that had elastic at the ankles. Their hair could be half way down their backs. They bleached patterns on their jean jackets. Two of the boys had their ears pierced. I even went jewelry shopping with them to buy them earrings.

They are all grown up now. The piercings are gone. The hair is cut short. Their jobs require that they look "nice." However, I will always remember how they looked in their high school days.

reverencia -> RE: Human Civilizaation is doomed (12/24/2013 7:45:52 AM)

It's likely they'll look back on the photos and cringe a bit. Just like I do when I look at the pics of myself growing up as a teen in the 80s.

Why I thought bows in big hair looked pretty is a complete mystery to me. I did own a mirror.

jlf1961 -> RE: Human Civilizaation is doomed (12/24/2013 10:20:24 AM)

Well I grew up here in west Texas, in high school you would see me in jeans, boots, decent shirt, and a stetson.

I didnt grow my hair long until after I got out of the army.

DesFIP -> RE: Human Civilizaation is doomed (12/24/2013 1:23:35 PM)

I wasn't nearly as nice as peppermint. My response to my son wanting an earring was "You're not a pirate, you don't get an earring".

On the other hand, I tried to convince my daughter to dye her hair blue because it would have matched her horse show outfit. She declined being afraid of her coach's response.

However, on a serious note, Jeff you've never taken a teen girl shopping. They don't sell anything decent. Both as a preteen and a teen, my daughter could not wear shorts to school. Because the shorts had to be longer than her fingertips and we couldn't find any in the stores. Only short shorts that you did not dare bend over in. She spent years cutting her old jeans off in order to have any shorts.

Next time you're in the mall, go look in the junior stores and you'll be shocked by what they think is appropriate for a 12 year old.

I keep saying that my mother would have nailed the door shut before she let me leave the house dressed like some young teen girls I see.

The funny thing about that is actually in your sig:

"Give a girl the right shoes and she will conquer the world. ~ Marilyn Monroe "

She was not talking about ballet flats or clunky shoes there. She was talking about the kind heels that make men go. "Wowie! Wow wow wow!"

Yeah, but she also wasn't talking about 13 year old girls either.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: Human Civilizaation is doomed (12/24/2013 4:46:04 PM)

It wasn't just pirates who wore earrings but a lot of the old sailing ship hands did. It was originally to pay for their funeral, should they be lucky (or unlucky) enough to die on land. It still begs the question as to why so many kids want to wear earrings or those things that look like colored plastic macaroni in their ears.

MasterCaneman -> RE: Human Civilizaation is doomed (12/24/2013 6:33:03 PM)

That was an interesting bit of information. It reminds me of what the old cowhands and gunslingers of the Old West would do with their Colt .45s. Since they didn't have a hammer block, it was unsafe to carry a live round under the hammer, so they'd roll up a ten-dollar bill and stick in in the cylinder to cover their funeral expenses.
