Now this is interesting, as I do have a suitor at the moment who is VERY shy. He is a brown-haired, thin and fretful Leo, and I am a plump, amiable blonde/redhead. It would be fun to test the charm, disgusting as it sounds, to see just what might happen! Take one for the team, all in the name of science!

OK - Everybody make note, windchymes is going to carry round a bottle of her own wee for science. Please report back with your results.

The Witch Charm

Take nine new needles and nine new pins, put them into a new phial, fill the phial with your own urine, cork it tightly, tie over the cork a piece of pure white paper in order to be sure that there is no defect in the corking, put the phial in your bosom, where you must carry it uninterrupted by night and day for nine consecutive days, if necessary.
The moment you have placed the phial in your bosom, your lover (or the man you are destined to marry) will begin to feel uneasy and will not be satisfied until he has had an interview with you and made you an offer of marriage. When he has paid his first visit after the charm, all will go well, and you should then throw the phial violently on a stone and break it, as you will thus relieve the poor fellow from considerable anxiety and some pain, for (according to ancient belief) he himself will not be able to urinate until the witch-charm be broken. If nine days pass without any demonstration towards you from a man, you will never marry.

Enjoy.

I got an amazing Christmas gift from my awesome mother, and I thought it might be a bit of a giggle to share it with you.

She got me a book printed 1860 with the tremendous title:

'Peletiah Pettengill's Perfect Fortune-Teller and Dream-Book;
Or, the ART OF DISCERNING FUTURE EVENTS
as practiced by
MODERN SEERS AND ASTROLOGERS
being also
A Key to the Hidden Mysteries of the Middle Ages.
To which is added
CURIOUS AND AMUSING CHARMS, INVOCATIONS, SIGNS ETC'

If anyone cares to take a turn, I will interpret your dream, tell you your zodiac-based personality (be warned, some of them are damning!), advise you on how to choose a good husband or wife, make various prognostications based on your moles, or provide you with charms to make your wife fruitful or check if your valentine is true to you.

Anyone want to play?

Sounds like you got an awesome gift and this sounds like fun.

*Often i dream( nightmare ) about driving or roll-a-coasters.
*Double Aries, sun and moon.
*At birth i presented with a tiny red dot between my breast and a small flat fawn-coloured mole just the right below my navel.

e2a
* i'm also a red/blonde haired pale complected person
* and any of those fertility charms could be useful

Ok, so no one else here is the zodiac Cancer? Ok, so I'm the first.

As for dreams, I have a recurring dream that both my parents are coming for me so we can all go on a trip, but for some reason, I always have to go back inside to get something I forget and then leave without me.

Cancer woman: 'of a captious temper, inclined to industry and fond of merriment and good cheer: in life she will be persevering in her undertaking, tenacious of her own opinion, but without provoking obstinacy: she will be much inclined to the pleasures of love in a lawful manner, and will make a good wife and mother.'

I'm struggling to do that dream, because I can't find anything about being left behind, or anything about packing. Travel in general is an omen of success in business, though generally travel by train or steamboat is a better omen that traveling by 'private carriage'. Dreaming of your mother being unkind or quarreling with you means she's about to give you a nice surprise.

Aries woman: 'modest, chaste, good-tempered, cleanly in her habits, industrious and charitable: in love she will be faithful, and in life he will be rather happy than otherwise, but be little concerned about worldly affairs: she will make an amiable mother, be decently fond of her husband, and moderately given to the joys of Hymen'

Driving and rollercoasters are a bit too modern for Peletiah, I'm afraid, though dreaming of being at the fair predicts a scarcity of something at home, or travel to a place where there is famine.

She doesn't say about between the breasts - the right predicts indolence, misfortune and accidents (though you will have smart and industrious daughters) and the left predicts good disposition, fondness of the opposite sex, good fortune and riches and oddly enough, a good walker. Unfortunately a mark low down on the belly predicts sickness.

Did I miss anyone out?

It is certainly a strange little book. It quite casually mentions what it may mean if you dream that 'your favourite slave' becomes ungrateful or needs to be flogged, and calmly predicts the likelihood that children born in certain phases of the moon will die in infancy. There is a spell to predict whether a newborn will die, which involves adding up a series of numbers that leaves you will pretty much a 50/50 chance of death.

Lol, yeah that little dot is straight square in the middle.
As for the navel, yes, i have endometriosis.

i know what the dreams are about, i have a phobia of driving. i fear that i'll lose control of the machine and something horrible like a crash will happen.

Fun!

I'm a Sagittarius. I have very active and complex dreams, in vivid and bright colors, and feel actual pain in them (on the rare occurrence there's something painful happening in my dream). I sometimes have very brief visits with my late father and late grandmother in my dreams. A past recurring nightmare (although I almost never have it anymore) is an uncontrolled jaw chomping down repeatedly until my teeth break.

I used to have a small mole under my right breast but it's been removed.

I used to have a beauty mark on the upper side of my right thigh but it has faded away.

You and I share a birthday, but unfortunately that means we are horrible people!

Sagittarius woman: 'of masculine disposition, much addicted to calumniate others, and spreading scandalous reports of those she does not like. In her behaviour she will be imperious and disagreeable; a great scold, and inclined to strong liquors and quarreling: in life she will make many enemies by her course of conduct and little regard to what she says, be rather unhappy and unsuccessful in her pursuits: in love she will be constant, but expect to govern her husband; she will expect him to do strict justice to the marriage bed, to the pleasures of which she will be immoderately attached. She will love her children but be negligent of them; she will be fond of her husband, while he gives her her own way, and strictly performs the marriage rites, but if they are neglected she will lead him a wearisome life, and be apt to prove unfaithful'

That is hilarious!!! Totally the antithesis of me, but pretty accurate about my mother - also a Sag.

I think this woman was once slighted by a Sagittarius lol.

quote:

I can't find any reference to pain in the dream, but breaking your teeth is an omen of sickness, and speaking with those who have departed is a general positive omen.

I've read counts from different sources that chomping and/or breaking teeth in a dream signifies things being out of control. And in looking back, when I most had that dream was always when things were most out of control. So I'm going with that.

This is fun, though - thanks for the grins today!

Pisces male with almost everything else - moon, jupiter, ascendant, etc. in Leo.
Medium height, slightly overweight, medium brown hair - nicely graying at temples, if you please. FULL head of hair at 60 +, anything to predict that?
Of course, dom and gay.  I'll bet that the "pleasures of Hymen / Venus" are NOT in any male section. LOL!
Only recurring dream is flying (under own power, fully clothed - NOT as a Super Hero, just me) which even Freud listed as sexual.

What you got?

I have to carry a "phial" in my bosom for 9 days??? I thought I could just pee in a Poland Spring bottle and keep it in the fridge or something. Can't I just invoke a horny stag petronus or something?

that really is a cool book! what a great gift. I have a feeling that you'll be very busy in this thread from now on lol

i'll add to your work load too just because I love these things.

me; aries, half Greek, beauty spot above left corner of mouth, very small strawberry mark right side hairline near cheek bone, birth mark on outer right thigh. no more babies for me.

dreams are usually very weird, or tend to come true. like RS I can also control my dreams, unless they are to do with sex.

needles

The one above your lips denotes that you are 'shrewish' but also highly intelligent. She doesn't talk of strawberry marks, but the mark on your thigh says you have an agreeable nature, courageous and amorous, and you should've had many fine daughters.

(Does anyone else love all these euphemisms for sexual appetite?)

thank you for that! no daughters for me. I was lucky to get my son, but said that had I had any more I would then have wanted a daughter. I am always faithful to my partners, and I am rather amorous, and moderately given to the joys of the hymen. really she means i'm a slut doesn't she? I think i'll go along with that lol

Well, are you willing to pluck out some pubic hairs and sew them into the hems of his handkerchiefs, as an alternative?

Lance, I'm not ignoring you sweetie, but I'm getting ready for bed so I will give you your fortune in the morning - don't make any huge life changing decisions before then!

I had a reoccurring bad dream from my teens to my 40s. It was set in my old house, which was a historic farm house in Detroit. I was upstairs practicing a magic summoning ritual . . . because I though I could control a summoned demon. The closet doors fly open, the devil is standing there and tosses a giant fireball at me, The fireball kills me and blows out the wall of the room, sending my burning dead body crashing into the yard below.

It is the only dream I was never able to fix by deliberately re-dreaming the ending. I hate the idea of a higher power. Fate is what you make it by your choices.

I couldn't make any sense of your first dream (far too many things in it that are too modern for Ms Pettengill) but I can have a go with this one. The devil foretells a long absence from home, while dreaming of your own death actually predicts a long healthy life. I can't find anything about you being burned, but if the house was also burning, that foretells financial good fortune.

Yes, old farm house, wood floors . . . one devilish fireball and the whole thing was burning. Although dead, I could still see from the perspective of where my body was and the house was being engulfed in flames.

Perhaps that is why the dream faded after I left my hometown. I have been having financial good fortune and I've been away from my home town and family with 5 uncles and dozens of cousins since 1997.

Thank you.

Ooh, I'm a Cancer, too, LL!

As for moles, I have one on both my arms, and a teeny tiny one on my back. I also have a birthmark on my outside right hip.

And, Athena, it does sound like an interesting, entertaining read! :)

What a wonderful gift. Can I play too? I'm a Scorpio, have several moles, but a large one on my left inner thigh. I've had a recurring dream about being thrown into a dark room with Charles Manson. He beats the shit out of me...I can usually still feel my head hurting when I wake up. Every time I try to get to the door he drags me back. Finally, I make it to the door and get out. I can feel blood dripping down the side of my head. I dab my finger in the blood and use it to draw a cross on either side of the door. Then turn to my left...there is a long hallway and a single bare light bulb up ahead. I turn and walk toward that light. Kinda creepy but I've had this dream since I was about 25. I would love to hear an interpretation of it.

Ooooh! Ooooh! Me! Me!

I had a really weird dream last night, which is mainly weird because I almost never remember my dreams:

Someone from work died, because they pricked the inside of their eyelid or eyesocket and somehow got meningitis from it, and it was chalked up as a work-related fatality, because the prick happened at work. And all I had was the thought of how weird that was, and how much paperwork it was going to be.

Bummer... it appears you are offline..
Nevertheless I will give it a go.

I am Sagittarius. (I agree with whoever said the author has a prejudiced against sags) I have two moles. One is at the inside corner of my right eyebrow and the other (less defined and flat) is just below my belly button.
