I have to disagree that North Korea isn't a risk; they have the fourth largest army on earth, poised on the border of one of our primary allies. Could we prevail in a war with them? Yes, but it would likely be goddamed bloody.... almost 55,000 Americans died in the first Korean war.

So, a risk to taking over the United States? No. But a risk as far as costing thousands and thousands of lives, you bet.

Changed my mind - Deleted - I don't want Chertoff and the geeks from Homeland Security paying me a visit.

Personally, I thought it a little more than humourous that
NK would celebrate the 4th with us by setting off
there best fireworks.

It wouldn't be much of a war if handled properly. The USS
Texas can take out NK all by herself. "Well done, Captain"

North Korea is just after attention. Japan and South Korea are a little jumpy but China seems to be remaining cool and hasn't ruled out admonishing its little neighbour for upsetting the region. The last thing that is needed is for this little episode to be blown up out of all proportion for nothing more than political distraction from political idiocies in other areas.

meatcleaver -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/6/2006 3:53:20 PM)

Putin was on the BBC world service today and he said people should relax, that North Korea is years off a viable delivery system and that talk of NK long range missiles being able to hit continental America are not true. Though he didn't mention America, he said NK's long range missiles will be lucky to do 6,000 kilometre or approx 3,780 miles.

Kedikat -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/7/2006 12:29:48 AM)

All these very second or third rate countries are way behind in the technology to make any hightech weapons that can threaten the US at distance.

You can really start worrying when Japan, S Korea and such start to cook them up. They will be cheaper, get better mileage, higher death toll per dollar, and US corporations will pressure the government to allow it, so as to profit on their foreign content shares bought with US workers defunct pension plan funds.

Let N Koreas freak leader waste what little cash he has on crappy expensive techno junk. Takes him closer to collapse.

Perhaps it's time to set up another Military Police action against North Korea. However, I'd like for the USA to launch 10 dud misile which hits NK in percise locations that read "Next time, we will be shooting blanks."

How many nukes would it take to make the USA completly inhabitable versus the number of nukes it would take to blow NK off the globe?

meatcleaver -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/9/2006 3:58:05 PM)

Such rhetoric is meaningless but why should NK not have nukes or test them when the USA, Britain, France, Germany and Japan are violating the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. A good lawyer might argue they aren't but if we are getting down to whether interpretations depend on good lawyers or not then one can bet the spirit of the treaty is being broken.

FangsNfeet -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/9/2006 4:25:48 PM)

North Korea wants it's nukes to controll the Eastern World much like Japan was doing pre WWII. NK wants power and controll as well as the stand off that America and Russia once had. The stand off in theory would keep the US from interfering in the new trade policies which North Korea would want to make.

Anyhow, the biggest fear from North Korea would be seeing them sell there nukes to the highest bidder. Though NK may never fire a nuke at the US, they may be tempted to sell there technology to someone who would. After all, North Korea is very poor relying on illegal drugs as it's main source of income. Communism failed to support Korea. Now it may turn to making more drastic business deals.

pantera -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/10/2006 5:00:35 AM)

How about we get a training session from Pat Robertson and shoot the bastard....we would be doing a lot of N Koreans a big favor!
