DesFIP -> Finding the cat (12/29/2013 3:55:01 PM)

My step-daughter is here, on her way home from Christmas vacation with her mother. She's getting ready to leave so we're looking for her cat, calling it - nothing. An hour into this, I decide to start looking scientifically, opening every door and checking, then closing the room. Finally I open the pantry door and there she is behind the macaroni and cheese.

She didn't gnaw the package and I have no idea what the attraction to it is but I jumped in the air when I opened it and saw her staring up at me. She is now locked in the den watching tv with The Man till it's time to go.

I looked all day for the cat once. We though he snuck out and gave up, then we found him on the fridge behind the cookbooks.

The attraction to the macaroni and cheese is that it provided her with a box to hide behind. They somehow know instinctively when there is a car ride in their future.

Sometimes a cat, bluntly, just wants to fuck with your head. This sounds like it might have been one of those times. Just listen for the distinctive staccato purr that sounds sort of like a Harley. Yes, that is a snickering cat you hear.

They know you are calling and Fuck with you. That's a cat. In fact that's a great cat. Well played kitty.

I wish my cats would hide for awhile, two of them stick to me like glue and the third is usually not far away. They and the dog are always competing for who gets to sit actually touching me. All I have to do is call and they come running because they think they're getting fed. They even come running when I fill their water bowl.

One of our favorite memories of my wolf-hybrid was the evening the wife got home from work, and couldn't find the kitten we'd adopted a few days before. She looked in all the corners and crevices our tiny little first home had, eventually getting me into the act, and neither of us could find her.

Finally, I looked at the dog, who'd been sleeping in the middle of the loving room floor throughout the search, and asked him if he had eaten the kitten. He raised his head, and the kitten was sleeping, curled against his chest, between his front legs.

Damn, I miss that dog hard sometimes.

Remember to check the drawers.  Often, one or the other would go under the open front at the floor and up the back, picking the cleanest laundry (of course.)

They know when they are being hunted.

One of them finally returned the make-up brush they stole out of the bag several weeks ago. Found it in the usual spot this morning, on the rug in front of the toilet. That's where they leave me gifts of appreciation every now and then. Apparently I earned it back.

My cats get into everything. One came into the living room last week carrying a Q-tip. She had pulled out all the Q-tips from the cabinet under the sink in the bathrrom. The one thing they won't mess with is the cat bed I bought them. Who can figure out cats!

MercTech -> RE: Finding the cat (12/30/2013 9:28:26 AM)

Cat, cheese, attraction.... hours spent trying to figure out why a cube of cardboard smells so delectable.

You go, adorable little kitten, you.

Mine have been more like this laid-back one:

My cat spent nearly 24 hours in the 2nd bedroom I never use. I thought she had frozen to death outside. I had gone out in the snow calling and calling and calling.

I got home from work, called some more and walked back to my house in despair. There she was, between the window and the blinds struggling to get my attention!!

MissKittyDeVine -> RE: Finding the cat (1/1/2014 4:31:44 AM)

It never fails to amaze me how, even in a small apartment, my cat can find new places to hide.

NuevaVida -> RE: Finding the cat (1/1/2014 2:47:36 PM)

My little guy hides in the cupboards. I actually installed kiddy locks (kitty locks?) on the doors. They like hiding in nooks and crannies, especially when in new places. I'm glad you found the cat!!
