ORIGINAL: TheHeretic So I'm looking through the local news from yesterday, and there is the traditional "first baby of the year" story. Baby born out of wedlock. It's the new normal. I'm curious what others find in their local story. First baby born in the Toledo area was born about 2 hours after midnight. No mention of the wedded status of the two parents. They have different last names, but that's not conclusive. I'm more interested that both parents are present and positively active in their boy's life. The first baby born to the other major hospital system in the Toledo area was born around 9:30 am, with no mention of the parent(s); just that it was a boy born around 9:30am and which hospital. Local news was dominated by Winter Storm Hercules (which is set to blast through NE US). We had level 2 storm emergencies here and temperatures in the teens. I didn't pay any attention to exactly how much we got, but it was a solid snow storm, and the winds were, and continue to be, strong. There is a lot of blowing, and it's still snowing. The lows tonight are going to be somewhere around 0 to -5°F. This is the 2nd major snow storm, and definitely the coldest temperatures, of the season. I travel the "expressways" to work, and while there were a few cars no longer on the roads, I found them to be just fine. As usual, the biggest headache on the roads are the people who forgot how to drive in snow, and have decided to travel 20-30 mph under the speed limit when conditions simply aren't that bad. I'm noticing fewer speed demons as I get older, and more "lack of speed" demons. It seems that if a snow flake is forecast, everyone drops their speed down 10-15 mph, even if the forecast is for the next day.
