My company is thinking of switching from Dreamweaver to Notepad++. I'm not a coder - I mostly use DW for editing copy or meta tags and very rarely touch the css. So, consider me to have more knowledge than a Word Press user, but not much more. Anyway, IT is always assuming I have more knowledge than I actually do, for example, it took me 9 months to dial in our new LINUX-based FTP. So I'm afraid they think I will be able to easily use Notepad++ when in fact a program like Dreamweaver might be better for me. I use the Properties tab extensively - is there something like that in Notepad? I keep DW in Code & Design view. I found this in a forum from 2006: I cannot think of one attribute Notepad has over DW besides price. Not one. If Notepad++ is not a good program for me, I'm sure I'd be able to convince my manger that I need Dreamweaver. (We're not in the IT Dept.) Thoughts?

I've coded webpages by hand, what would be required using notepad++, and it is a long tedious process. Dreamweaver cuts that time by 75 to 90% and the results are more attractive in general. Dreamweaver is a dedicated HTML design tool. Notepad++ is simply a text editor. There is no way I'd want to do serious webpage authoring in notepad++.

Why aren't you using MS Word or equivalent? Notepad++ is absolutely the wrong tool unless you are writing code. I do write code and I'm saying, "WHAT THE FUCK?!" Whatever they are smoking I want some of it.

Malcolm, would my OP make more sense if I'd said I edit our existing websites using Dreamweaver? The real IT guys do the slicing and so on.

Like DW, it has a live view and lets you see your editing in real time. You can also click elements on the web page like DW and it tells you what they are. Anyway, I use FireBug plug in while regular web surfing, it lets me grab hidden objects, images or movies etc. It also lets me test mods that spring to mind when viewing my own web designs. If I like the new idea, I can save a copy. FireBug price = FREE

Gonna agree here. I'm a coder and webpage designer at work. I use notepad++ for the coding and I have used Dreamweaver in the past for design. We now use SharePoint and Drupal so I haven't used Dreamweaver in awhile now but I used Notepad++ almost daily for coding when I need to customize the designs.
