HipPoindexter -> does it bother you when you realize people you like are full of shit? (1/3/2014 9:45:55 AM)

i don't really give a shit about duck dynasty (more like dick dynasty lol) or the kerfluffle surrounding it, but i was sort of entertained by those pictures making the rounds of the duck dynasty dudes from years ago when they were garden variety yuppies and not colorful televised yokels. it reminded me of a few years ago when david cross pointed out that "larry the cable guy" was a rich kid from the suburbs who originally invented his character to make fun of the hicks who later embraced him. the overwhelming response to that revelation from people who already liked larry the cable guy's character was "no1curr." clinton and obama's official biographies both stress how they grew up hard and in difficult circumstances when in fact, although they both came from less affluent backgrounds than many of the elite they also both had/earned truly staggering educational and networking opportunities starting at a very young age. george w bush swaggered into office as a "cowboy" who, like the late great townes van zandt, was driven to boarding school in his family's limo. it's pretty easy to call out people you don't like on their bullshit personas but i guess what i'm wondering is, if it's someone whose politics you agree with or who you happen to find someone funny are you still willing to say "you know i kinda like what you stand for but the way you try to market yourself is straight up bullshit!"?
