There was one in my home town. Known as the Duck. Lots of fun until it sank and some people drowned. No way would I ride in one. And ours had a long safety record as far as I can remember.

In Maine there are boats you can ride on that travel from the mainland out to the islands to deliver mail and groceries. Some specialize in giving scenic rides to look at wildlife. Depending on which island you are heading toward they can be fun.

The duck which Tiggerspoobear refers to was actually a DUK(w) a world war two vehicle also known as an amphibious jeep. The only one that I know of that sank used for tourists was hit by another vessel, in Phillie I believe.

If properly maintained, the DUK is actually a very sea worthy craft, and harder than you would imagine to sink.

As for something like that in my home town, I live in West Texas, with the Salt Fork of the Brazos river north of town, which has water in it (above ground) only after heavy rains where the river rises. Lake Fort Phantom was built to help supply the town with water, then the power plant was built there, which keeps the water pretty warm, promoting the growth of some rather disgusting bottom plants and promoting the growth of some awesome catfish, 40 pounds is considered small coming out of that lake.

The city trolly system was taken out of service in the 30's, and the tracks paved over, which worked until the 60's when the pavement was worn down to let the tracks show through.

But no water taxis. And if the drought goes much longer, we may not have water.

This company had had problems before. They were fined up the yin-yang. This last "incident" put them under, no pun intended, for good reasons.
