It is a balmy 19 degrees here this morning, yesterday it was 11. The funny thing is that yesterday evening, it was warmer in Easton PA (40 dgrees) where my non-biological sister and niece is from than here, we were at 19.

This morning it is -1 in Easton.

And of course I have to drive to Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas for a follow up today.

Wait, Easton? You know where Easton is?

I lived in Phillipsburg for a while.

Oh please, we've had -28*F at My house here in Maine for several nights now, I tend horses out there in it at midnight every night, moving hay, carrying water buckets, and trying to convince them to stop playing with each other and come into their stalls. Day before yesterday the DAYTIME HIGH was -8*F. Everyone here in Maine is still "work as usual". You just put on more layers of polar fleece under your Carhartt's and turn your face away from the wind. If you guys are still too cold you need to move around, shovel some snow or split some wood.

...or chase each other around with a whip, that works well too. LOL

It's supposed to be -4 here tomorrow morning. So my work stated we could take telework tomorrow if we had supervisor approval. I called my boss and asked him if i could because I have to walk to my bus and train in the morning. So yay! I get another day of telework! The cold is good for something at least!

I grew up in Western PA up top of a mountain. Most of my friends and family still live there and most of them were telling me that this is the coldest they have ever felt back there and they are used to bone chilling cold and feet and feet of snow. So weird. They never ever cancel stuff there but apparently the entire town has shut down because everything is frozen.

Here in Baltimore all the pipes are bursting. According to the city here, so far at least 6 pipes have burst in my area alone...lots of slick roads and sidewalks right now.[:-]

I have lived in Maine all My life. It is NORMAL for the temps to vary greatly. We have below zero temps one day, then 50 and rain the next, followed by below zero again. It's been that way since I was a kid. That's nothing new. It makes for great sledding if you have one of those old fashioned iron-runner sleds; you can go for MIIIIIILES on the thick and smooth crust if you have a big hill above a 20 acre field.
[edited to add: Ok, maybe not MILES, since it's a 20 acre field...but the walk BACK seems like miles, heh heh]

FR:
It is very weird weather.
At this moment, it is still warmer in Maine where my (step)mom lives than it is here, and for part of the day, where I live (in MA) was warmer than the majority of the country, including Southern CA.
The high today in New Orleans was 41F.
It got up to 55 here.

heh, yeah but ya know, if my work is stating we can telework, I sure as hell am taking full advantage of it! [:D]

The less I have to leave the house, the happier I am!

It was 4F tonight. Everyone is complaining about pipes freezing.

MasterCaneman -> RE: The Polar Vortex is coming to kill us all! (1/7/2014 10:47:02 PM)

Meh. High of 8 today (don't forget your sunblock and stay hydrated) with a windchill of something like -30. They've had driving bans here the last couple days because of the whiteouts from all the blowing snow. Wind's died down, I'll be able to get out tomorrow. I agree with MM, it's winter, deal with it. Dress a little warmer, drive a little slower, give yourself more time to do things and it all works out. The problem in my neck of the woods is it'll be getting into the forties this weekend, and we expect flooding on the creeks here.

My back pasture is now a LAKE, frozen solid and smooth. If I had enough sissydolls with ice skates I could have a sissy hockey game out there.

Or maybe sissies vs. gimps...

I did not need that picture in my head.

DesFIP -> RE: The Polar Vortex is coming to kill us all! (1/8/2014 9:00:54 AM)

This weekend I am moving all the cars so the rain can melt the ice sitting under the normal parking spots. I hate ice.

by all the gods, I HATE the cold. Reading your posts reinforces that in me and helps me again realise why I spent so many years at sea and always around the tropics whenever possible. I hated winter in U.K. as a kid and was out of there as soon as I was able to do so. I really do wish you (all of you) the very best and hope the winter isn't too unkind ( or MORE unkind than it already is) to you

HELL, if I remember rightly is somewhere between Hull and Halifax in U.K...........they used to be known as the three worst places in U.K..................That must be before anybody discovered Luton though I think.

This time,The Sun was about Hell in Ohio (I think)...... I`ve never been to Halifax but Hull and Luton seem reasonable calls. [8D]
