Capstar to start out, followed up with Program.

Worked quite well when we had a flea infestation from hell, and is non-toxic to cats, dogs, and humans.

Thanks. Read about them on Amazon reviews and there also someone mentioned that one of them is only for instant use whereas the other one is to follow up....if the plan which we started today (as replied a few posts above) isnt working then we will try this one next....Never heard about that one until I was looking around now on Amazon for that topic....

The Capstar kills all fleas currently on the cat, giving them some relive.
That should be followed up with Program, which inhibits the procreation process once a lfea has taken blood from an animal treated with Program.
In the long run, this should have you flea free, as the fleas will no longer multiply.

You can buy the largest dog dose and break it down for your cats, that safes some money.

Thanks. As I ordered something online today from the pharmacy anyway, I ordered them with them as well...though I guess that will be "funny" to convince Curry to take the pill, which Capstar seems to be....

I remember those tablets he got in the past against worms...he was quite good in spitting them out and needed a few attempts until he finally swallowed it (as he just refuses to eat any food in which I tried to hide it...)

But when it helps then we will all be happy again at last...

When you treat the cats; are you treating the environment too?

Best is to fumigate the home at 8-10 day intervals for at least 30 days to make sure you kill all the little buggers. The eggs can be dormant in upholstery before hatching and be dormant over the winter in freezing environments.

For hard floors, putting some borax in the mop water can help keep them down.

For yourself, did you know they make flea bracelets as well as the mosquito bracelets? Yep like having a flea collar on the wrist. Great for those occasional trips to Aunt Cat Lady's house so you don't bring home hitchhikers.

Hi there,

what are you using when your furballs have fleas?

Now....I am not new to cats and fleas and I do know that many of them arent on the animal itself, but I am close to a nervous breakdown by now as nothing seem to work really and we are close to going to the vet in the near future, in the hope she can give us some proper stuff for it....

In the past frontline worked well, but sadly, the review from Amazon users were right, they are very well these days in handling that (or frontline changed its mixture and it is not as successfull anymore)....then we tried two different sorts of collars which were useless and now we got one from the pharmacy which seems to work a bit but I doubt that it is really sufficient enough...

I never got so annoyed about fleas as it is on this occassion....though to be fair, beside one episode back in 2010 I had thankfully no issue with them over all those years (previous flea treatments were with previous cats.)

Just thought to ask, in case anyone of you has any great experiences about that [:o]

Frontline sucks.

The big boys (Advantage) have lost a few retail outlets because they raised their prices.

The shit that's on the retail counters sucks.

Advantage is the shit.

If you care about your kids...the good shit is what does the trick.

Actually, I am tackling that issue right now...

I moved to my partner recently after losing my job and it went quite chaotic here (he has a minimum household and I have way too much stuff for his tiny flat, so now his cellar is filled up, the one from my parents is filled up and slowly but steady we managed again to get living conditions in his place...).

Anyhow....we both dont have a hoover right now so I ordered one yesterday which should get here tomorrow....that way I will be able to hover our beds and underneath it now regularly and also decided to wash our bedding every 3-4 days until it gets better here...started with that one today, will do so again at the weekend...

Tomorrow the stuff Calamitrysandra mentioned should get here, that should kick start a good turn...but I am aware about treating the environment as well and am working on it [:)]

Thanks regarding the borax thing....will check it out...

Recently I started to take more care about our floor in the bedroom as we figured out that my partner is allergic against dust mites....for a time we thought it would be against the cats, but once I figured out how much dust was on his side (just after I moved in) it got much better with him and it was clear, that it arent the cats, but instead the dust...

so its anyway helpful to keep working a lot on our tiny but chaotic temporary place...

i dont have cats but i have dogs... and the vet has a flea collar for $40 dollars and i put them on my dogs and the fleas died and i have not had to change it in year... i am going to soon..but it lasts up to a year .. no fleas or ticks.. i forget the name of it tho

Phoenixpower -> RE: Flea treatment on cats (1/15/2014 10:52:17 AM)

Thank you ivone57 [:)] and everyone else, too [:)]

I got today the meds suggested from calamitrysandra and they seem to do the trick here at last...

Last night I was getting seriously fed up, as all the time I had another flea in my fingers when going through the fur from curry (he always lies next to me since I moved in with Frank) and couldnt sleep until 7am this morning...needless to say, my day wasnt the best today and I dropped my planned trip to the gym...

however....at 4pm my flea meds finally arrived...

Curry surprisingly wasnt able to spit it out (seems I got it straight deep enough inside and so I also took him a bit by surprise...cause back in England he was pretty good in spitting out his worming tablets), however, again surprisingly, this time Pepper spit out that tablet 3-4 times....something I never experienced with her in the past [8|][:D]

Now...following that Curry was quiet about 5 minutes and then he scratched himself heavily for 2 hours (which is ok according to the leaflet)....at first Pepper still was relaxed lieing on the bed, but about 15 minutes later she joined into this scratching party...

After about 2 hours all was fine...I found a fair amount of dead fleas on my bed where they had their party (thankfully I have plenty covers) and as I got my hoover also delivered about 6.30pm today, I will do a thoroughly hoovering tomorrow as well...

So still a lot to do to break the cycle but I finally feel being on the right path with them...and that feels good at last....so a better night sleep should lie ahead tonight [:)]

Many thanks to everyone...and thanks for confirming the reviews I had already read about the stuff calamitrysandra suggested...it just feels sometimes a bit more convincing to read it from someone who used it on the boards than just on feedback and I havent had heard about them before...

But in general it really feels awesome now, to see the cats near me in a way less scratchy mood....[:)]

bowman20 -> RE: Flea treatment on cats (1/15/2014 12:58:25 PM)

i will make it as simple as i can.

1. get rid of the fleas in the cat.(u can take it to the vet for a shower so he can get rid of them all.)
2. there exist 2 really good treatment for fleas for cats. the first one its called REVOLUTION. this kills the fleas on the cat and also removes parasites(deworm) this medicne last for a month. the other one its called COMFORTIS. its a tablet that kills fleas. really effective. and since its ingested it dosent loose its effect quickly.
3.u got to get rid of the fleas that are in the cat emviroment too. u have to fumigate every week for 4 weeks!!. u do this cuz of the flea have diferent grow cicles.(the cat must no be there when u do this!!)

do this and ur house and cat will be flea free. and its a great time to do it too cuz we are in the winter season.

There was a little squirty thing (Advantix I seem to recall)...did the trick but as it turned out, was bad for kittahs...actually made 'em sick....I used to buy them by the 48 pack so I'd have 2 years worth (hate not having what I want....when I fucking want it).

Turns out, it was bad for them kittahs.

Of course, you can bath them (once monthly) with flea soap (lasts about 2 weeks....takes 'em two weeks to get more fleas).

There ya have it.

DomMeinCT -> RE: Flea treatment on cats (1/15/2014 9:22:46 PM)

FR: It's less expensive to buy the flea bombs for the house in bulk. If you buy 6 online, you've got multiples to use for your home (depending upon the size of the space) and you can follow up with a 2nd use a week later. DAILY vacuuming of floors, beds, sofas will help get stragglers.
