I hear this said quite a bit.........and it admitedly makes me smile-about people doing things they don't neccesarily want to. Even though we all do, at times.

I think the concept of fairness, that life should be fair, is taught and it may be somewhat of a disservice to attitudes, overall.

I was told this once-but I lost faith in the idea when we moved away-I turned 9-and never saw that playground monitor again.[:D]

So,should it always be fair?

Or is it better to just do what you agree to-even if it hurts?

LokisBrat -> RE: Suck it up! (7/5/2006 8:00:22 AM)

I have always been taught that life isn't fair and I believe this.  While in Basic Training, "suck it up" was a frequently heard phrase and it was ALWAYS better to do what was agreed upon, even if it did hurt for a bit.  I tend to take this sort of attitude with my submission to Loki as well, but as I stated in another thread, some days I don't feel nearly as submissive as others.
I have always felt it personally better to just "suck it up and drive on" as it were, unless we're talking about serious injury.

Just my $.02

Life is not fair. We have to do things we do not want to every day.........I am sitting here at work! I would much rather be doing any of a hundred other things. Fact remains, no one else is going to pay the bills. When I get done working I have to run icky errands, I don't want to but I have to. When I get home I would love to change into comfy clothes and relax on the sofa with a glass of wine........not gonna happen. More stuff I don't want to do waiting for me there.
Again I say, life is NOT FAIR.

TheJackal -> RE: Suck it up! (7/5/2006 8:03:09 AM)

I never used to tell anyone to "suck it up."  Then I had a teacher who said it all the time and now I say it.

diamonddreamlove -> RE: Suck it up! (7/5/2006 8:04:14 AM)

Life isn't fair but i would rather have honor and do what i agreed to do than to feel the pain that goes with failing myself by not fulfilling my end of the bargain.

IronBear -> RE: Suck it up! (7/5/2006 8:23:47 AM)

The only time I have ever used "Suck It Up" has been in training in Martial erts or Military Training and occasionally in SCA Training. Usually I'm working with some one who is pushing their percieved limits and I'll be along side them doing the same thing. It usually comes out as "Ok it's hurting like hell so suck it up, use the pain and lets get on with it."  few things in life are fair or just. life often can be harsh and anything worth while means you suck up[ the pain or discomfort and move on towards the goal.... In these cases the end justifies the means (sucking up shit to achieve your dream)..

This slave does what Master tells her to do, no matter if I want to or not; no matter if it makes me angry or not.

as this slave used to tell the unmentionables, many moons ago:

"fair" is somewhere you go in the summertime, ride rides, eat cotton candy and pet a goat......

Is it ok to pet a slave? Goats are more smelly than slaves usually.... [8|] Hmm I do like camels, dogs and horses too though

I got fed up of sucking it up and walked out of my job, sold my car and moved into a studio appartment and started to do what I always wanted to do. Yep, I still have to make compromises but I'm not sucking it up half as much as what I used to. I wish I had done it years ago. Most of the reasons why we just suck it up is because we are brainwashed into thinking we have to. We don't live in the drudge and grime of the thrid world where sucking it up is necessary for survival.

Kedikat -> RE: Suck it up! (7/5/2006 10:04:00 AM)

I think we should strive to be fair and just. But don't expect life to be fair all the time. So many things can improve if we make a small continuous effort.
Unfortunately, to be fair to others, still means you will be taken advantage of often. But now and then, it might be contageous. And be returned.
Slow and steady.

hizgeorgiapeach -> RE: Suck it up! (7/5/2006 10:46:54 AM)

Fair?  Don't believe we ever heard the word - it's certainly not part of MY vocabulary in expections about life.

About the only time I use phrases like 'suck it up' its in responce to someone whining.   They can do or not do - I could honestly care less most of the time - I simply want them to STFU with bitching about something THEY feel they Have to do or Can't do.

SirKenin -> RE: Suck it up! (7/5/2006 11:41:08 AM)

Well, the way I see it is this.  Although we want life to be fair, it very seldom is on it's own.   You have to fight for it.  Is it worth fighting over every stupid little thing?  No, of course not.  So you "suck it up" and choose your battles.  [:)]

kittensmailbox -> RE: Suck it up! (7/5/2006 11:46:51 AM)

i for one say "suck it up" all the time, "or get over it"...  i feel pity for no one except a child or animal...

We make our life's what they are, no one else can be responsible for our own happiness...

yes, I too agree. I have and would suck it up, take the pain, whatever... to the letter of an agreement. One where things are clearly communicated.

I think maybe, and I could be wrong, that some of us submissives are happy to be used and please... even through agonizing pain - yeah, we suck it up and the Top doesn't, may not know - because 'it' didn't complain.
Because of it's silence (after the screams etc) 'it must be doing it for themselves'  so not true!  'it' may have been sucking it up.

*Injury- is the keyword. If an agreement and order stand that avoiding injury is in the best interests of all.... there is no disagreement.

* I would define injury as something that would at least put the slave out of service for a while,  need medical care, and /or to reinjure something ( ex. torn ligaments). Simple hard pain, discomfort, even if severe.... this one sucks it up.

Again, commnication .....
as always

marieToo -> RE: Suck it up! (7/5/2006 3:19:34 PM)

There are some things that need sucked up.  There are other things that need fought.  Ya just gotta know the difference.
