That's what I thought... another internet tough guy with the personal attacks, but nothing of substance.

Snore.

Oh, EdBowie, you say the silliest things when you get handed a scoop of your own nonsense to eat. It's almost cute. [:)]

All I'm hearing is whining.

You slammed all veterans and troops who disagree with you about Bush being some kind of blameless war hero as 'libbies', and when called on it, all you've got is smirking and sandbox taunts from behind the safety of your keyboard.

No. I referenced libbies in terms of those who cannot speak of a problem in our country without finding a way to excuse the current incompetent White House, by trying to make it about Bush. You made that dumbass accusation you repeated above, I called you on it, and now you are flinging this internet Rambo meme around. I'm assuming it is to try and distract from having your first line of crapola handed back to you.

Whatever.

The subject here is the latest scandal to come down on the once admired Air Force major command formerly known as SAC. I think there are a number of causes, with morale being one of them. I also referenced a lack of job satisfaction in SAC. That was a half joke. I know a guy who spent his 25+ year Air Force career in the command, maintaining nuclear weapons, and he never did get to let one off.

So quit stalking my posts, quit making up ridiculous bullshit to claim I said, and quit pissing down your leg.

Maybe it has something to do with the Commander in Chief ?

Seriously? Let me guess, Obama is to blame for the ongoing volcanic activity in Hawaii? He was the reason for the freezing weather in December? What the fuck else non political do you want to blame on him?

Yeah, he is a fucking moron, but since the rearrangement of Air Force commands in 1992, there has been problems with Air Combat Command. SAC was one of the most disciplined organizations in the military. My father was in SAC for part of his air force career. You could lose a rank grade for a minor screw up. Wing Commanders could lose their command for failing a Readiness Drill, which were never scheduled.

Hell, SAC had the least turn over in the Air Force for most of its history. Men made careers out of SAC.

Jlf, "Hawaii?"
President Foggy Bottom calls it,..."Asia."
He's an extremely weak president and the military know's it. He doesn't "inspire" anyone except the "Hollywood" types.
How can anyone think that he could,..."inspire" men and women who serve in the uniforms of our country?
Can you imagine if the USO had a show and Mrs. Foggy Bottom "Michele" wanted to sing for the Troops?
THEN you'd see armed M.P.s!

Obama is an idiot.

And he is not the subject of this thread.

The subject of this thread is the shit going on in the nuclear forces of the Air Force.

That's a massive pile of projection... again, some more.
The specific topic was those serving in the military, and then the usual partisan trolls tried to drag in disrespect among the troops for the current President, which you jumped on with both feet. Your 'libbies' comment was specifically derisive of our troops and veterans who served under Bush and didn't laud him like you do. Then your internet tough guy act folded when it was suggested you take it on the road.

jlf1961 -> RE: What the hell happened to Air Combat Command (formerly SAC) (1/20/2014 8:42:38 AM)

Lets face it, the Air Combat Command has lost a lot of its bling since the dissolution of SAC. The base here was a SAC base, first with B47's, then B52's finally the B1b.

It was also a nuclear weapons storage facility, until it was turned into a conventional bomber wing, no nukes. The tanker squadron was moved and moral went down the toilet.

And it is basically a waste of resources. The runway at the base was designed to support any size aircraft at any gross weight.

During the cold war, SAC had a specific enemy, the Soviet Union. Bombers orbited at points that put them within hours of their targets. That is not the SOP anymore. In the SAC era, there were surprise readiness drills, unannounced and to fail one was the end of the career for the wing commander, and usually a few others in the wing chain of command.

We need a new cold war.

asyouwish72 -> RE: What the hell happened to Air Combat Command (formerly SAC) (1/21/2014 8:06:48 PM)

To get back to the original topic, "what the hell happened to SAC"...

It seems to me their biggest problem is that they won the (cold) war. In the 1950s and 60s, being on a nuclear bomber or ballistic missile crew was the most important and glamorous job in the military, since there was a belief that nuclear war with the Soviet Union was a realistic prospect. That was starting to recede by the 1980s, since the Soviets were on their last legs. By the 90s, the cold war was over. That's a generation ago now.

Nobody outside of the upper part of the officer corps had to deal with the reality of the Soviet threat (real or imagined; they were a reasonable match for the US military) as a grown-up. Most people in the air force nuclear service now were only small children then at best. Since then, nobody in their right mind contemplates full-scale nuclear war (admittedly, no one should have back then, either, but such were the times). So service in Strategic Command (today's version of SAC) is not a plum job. The best and brightest want to fly aircraft. Silo crews are just whatever can be scared up. They are not taking the job sufficiently seriously and the ranking officers are not holding their feet to the fire enough. At least that's my view.

Certainly, it has nothing to do with this occupant of the White House, or the previous one either.
