The thread where the new boyfriend was disappointed that the sub wasn't competitive enough got me wondering if there was a relation between submissives/slaves and liking/disliking competitive sports and what role gender plays in this.

Yeah as I said in that thread, I don't have a single competitive bone in my body. I don't understand competition at all. Master has tried to get me to compete in all kinds of things and it never works. I just don't even try to win. I just play and if I win, great. If I don't, that's fine too. It's just not something I care about. I don't need to win or feel better than the other person or whatever it is that competition feels like to those who enjoy it. It's just not me.

When my daughter was young she liked to play board games. I would end up being forced to play with her but after about a half hour she would get angry at me because I wasn't trying to win. I was just playing. She hated it.

Then Master tried to teach me to play chess once and I couldn't understand it because there was a lot of competition involved....kings knocking over pawns and whatever. I would ask him questions why that is supposed to happen and other stupid questions because I was really trying hard to understand the purpose of the game. Yeah, he gave up.

I seriously just don't get it.

It is wrong to put submissives and natural slaves into the same category. They are as different creatures as a whale is different from a kolibri.

I should think that the amount of submissives in high powered jobs should tell people that of course you can be sub, and competitive. being sub, or a slave doesn't mean that you are a push over, or non competitive.

i'm a switch, so I guess you don't really want my answer. however, i'm going to give it anyway; i'm uber competitive in everything I do. not just with others, but with myself. it also has to be a pure win for me with no cheating. a win though doesn't have to be first place, it just means being the best that I could have been, giving my horses their best chance of winning even if the judge didn't like them on the day, or gaining a personal best. competition isn't just about sport.

I hate competition. My man correlates liking competition with confidence- and we have gone back and forth about how I don't see/understand that argument. I don't think I need to win to validate that I should feel good about myself.

I chose other, so let me explain.

I've never been into competitive sports, at least not since I was ten and played ponytail softball (That's what they used to call the girl's league).

Before my back went bad I tended towards those sports where you compete against yourself, like skiing, horseback riding, etc.

I am, however, highly competitive. I love board games, card games, chess, backgammon, scrabble, and you so don't want to play poker with me. Himself and I play some cutthroat gin.

We also play war games together -- I'm talking with miniature figures that replicate a battle situation (sometimes taken from history, like Waterloo). I am very competitive in this mostly male arena, and I have *never* lost. (I've been playing chess since I was six, strategy I'm good at.)

This competitive streak is very much a part of me. Though Himself and I love to compete in a mental arena, we respect each other enough that we can enjoy the game no matter who wins. (When he beats me at gin, he only crows a *little* -- it's all that unnecessary humility he's burdened with).

I've been competitive like this since I was a small child. When I won at monopoly (I rarely lost) I would make the losers say that I was the 'supreme ruler of monopoly' -- I was six.

I don't think competitiveness is a dom or sub trait though. My sub is *very* competitive. But then his personality is very unsub in everything except his sexual orientation.

I like competitive sports, without the competition. I enjoy winning, but that's not why I'm playing.
I am EXTREMELY competitive with myself, so while playing sports I'm really trying to push myself to see what I can do and nothing whatsoever towards winning or being better than someone else.

I'm very competitive in just about everything I do, even with myself. I'm not very sporty these days, but you should see my percentage of success in my Mahjong Titan turtle puzzle! Because I won't stop until I win, lol.

Do you mean playing sports or just enjoying watching/supporting?

I get dead bored watching sports, but don't mind playing them so much.

Board games and such I'll play to win, more physical sports I'll play to survive lol (not being that good at them). Swimming and tennis I enjoy, but that's about it. It rarely bothers me when I lose (with the exception being computer games when a glitch kills you - then the gloves come off lol)

Not sure where that puts me in your poll though...

I dislike competition. As a kid, we played a lot of scrabble and most times I would win. My family members would bring people home and demand I beat them at it. Made it unlikeable and I stopped playing the game.

I'm very competitive. Once in a new Yoga class I was, of course, glancing at the woman next to me just to make sure my poses were better, that I stretched farther, etc. halfway through the class, the instructor tapped me on the shoulder, leaned down and whispered "yoga is not a competitive sport, dear". I was like. Wtf?? EVERYTHING is a competitive sport!!

I practice yoga in my house now.

I'm also a kickass, take no prisoners tennis player.

I'm competitive.

I love strategy, thinking outside the box, and structuring the win.

Then there's always competitive drinking. I excel there.

My competitiveness is one more submission until it comes to scrabble.
Then all bets are off.
Losing on purpose is a hard limit.

I meant playing sports, and by sports I meant to include games as well.

I said "competitive sports" to differentiate from "being competitive" like in yoga. As a yoga teacher, I will give Hot Lips a lecture when I have more time

I identify as a slave and I'm competitive. I played soccer from age 7 all the way through high school. I'm competitive on the rifle range. I would love to get into actual competitive shooting some day. Basically, if there is a game or event to be won, then I will be giving it my all.

I have never played any sports. I have always hated them. I'm not even competitive with myself or work. I just don't see the point. I guess it's because not much in life is important enough to me to matter.

I am not competitive with anyone but myself. I sometimes enjoy competitive sports and games, but only as a spectator, or when it's just for fun with friends or siblings and it doesn't really matter who wins.

I can't put in words just how highly I regard competition.
It can bring out the best in a person as well as revealing the worst.

I'm a competitive person, I love a challenge.
