Medicare costs $104 per month unless you are talking about supplemental which medicaid won't cover. I know in NJ, there are programs that will help with the costs of medicare when someone meets the criteria. In NJ, I can tell you that you would qualify because you receive the minimum payment from Social Security. In NJ, this information was obtained through the division of senior services. You might also try the Division for rehabilitaion services. I understand that when you receive the minimum in SSD, medicare and medicaid can be interrerlated, but it doesn't change the fact they are different programs with different guidelines operating under different laws. As I said before, you are trying to change legislation, and a mere petition isn't going to do that. Getting local assemblymen, senators, etc to take up your cause might change legislation, but not likely in the time frame you want, and you will need to be able to communicate your issue more clearly than you have here if you want to get their attention. For the record, medicare is not free for anyone. Every recipient has to pay the $104 per month, and all supplemental programs at the recipients expense. Yes, medicare is pretty crappy insurance, with standard 80/20 co-pays. I'm willing to bet you don't know what was covered through medicare and what was covered by medicaid.bbmedicaid was basically picking up the balance of what medicare didn't pay. I DO understand your position and agree you need both insuurances to have you medical needs met. However, if you are going to try to change the laws about the guidelines, that doesn't help with your immediate need. There are programs available that can help, it is a matter of finding them and sadly, social services people aren't always knowledgeable about these things (although they should be and it is part of their job). We have some disabled people here that also live in Texas, so they would know what those other avenues are better than me. I'm surprised none of them have posted here. I know one in particular who might have some info and I'm going to shoot him a text and ask him to look at this thread and see if he has any ideas. But instead of spending your time trying to get government official to take up your cause, your time is going to be better spent on the phone looking for these other agencies. I would start with senior services and the division of vacational rehabilitation. But first, you need to be able to clearly communicate what you are looking for, otherwise, you will continue to get told no one can help you. First you want a program that will pay your medicare costs. Then you need to contact companies regarding the other services. I assume you have a motorized wheelchair. Contact the company directly and explain that you cann not afford repairs. They may have programs to help you or be able to direct you to some. I'm sure you are talking about a home health aid, not simply a cleaning person. Again contact those companies directly and tell them your situation. In your case, I'm sure that medicare covers a portion of that aid at the very least. Ask the company if they know of other avenues for assistance. Often the home health aid provider and wheelchair company will be able to direct you to places for assistance. After all, they want you as a client, its in their interest to help you. If I think of anything else, ill let you know.
