TheHeretic -> The dreaded 30 magazine clip (1/20/2014 9:29:58 AM)

So California, not exactly a firearm friendly state to begin with, has some new gun control legislation pending. That's a "set your watch" kind of thing, but what prompted the thread is how it was introduced to the public.

One of our fine state senators came out at the press conference, and made it clear to everyone that he simply has no clue, whatsoever, what the fuck he is talking about. You can view a snip of his remarks, with editorial additions, at the link (less than 1 minute). Ignorance, and hyperbole.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJmFEv6BHM0

The same thing goes on in news stories about guns. 100 rounds gets described as a "large" supply of ammunition. A shooting is carried out with a 22 guage shotgun.

How are we supposed to take these people seriously, even if they have a valid point to make?

popeye1250 -> RE: The dreaded 30 magazine clip (1/20/2014 9:42:33 AM)

That's the point, they don't have a valid point to make.
And, like so many in "govt" they think they're there to try to tell The People what to do!
They are there to *SERVE* The People.
They're the hired help not he management.

You just can't make this stuff up.

I seems to me Californians are the most chump people on Earth. There are videos on Youtube Californians are asked to sign partitions. Most sign partitions that violate the Constitution.
Here is an example:

Zombie Apocalypse is very real.

I love it when I read about the dreaded ".12 gauge shotgun". As near as I can figure it, it'd be roughly the same diameter as a swizzle stick. To be helpful, here's a quick and e-z guide for all those gun-grabber types:

I have a hard time taking any pro-gun/enthusiast seriously when he/she refers to the unit that holds the ammunition as a "clip". The correct word is, and always has been, "magazine".
The title for this thread should read "The Dreaded 30-round Magazine".

And yes, I DO own guns. I enjoy shooting at the range. I have no use for hunting as I have several well-stocked grocery stores within walking distance. Not to mention there isn't really much "sport" in killing a dear with the typical hunting rifle.

I have a pair of 8-round mags for my .22 rifle and a single 9-round mag for my Glock 34. That's as many shots as I need to take at any given moment. Can anyone give a rational explanation as to why you would ever need more?

The title of this thread is taken from a direct quote by the California state senator who was having a presser about a new gun bill, Dave, and the ignorance of anti-gun zealots is the subject.

Thanks for your contribution to the discussion. [8|]

First, I'm curious why you need so many. [:D] Now, when you've figured that out I think it would be obvious why even more would not be a bad thing.

sorry but you have it backwards.
a .12 gauge shotgun would mean that it would be a cannon with each cannonball weighing about 8 pounds

FellowSlave -> RE: The dreaded 30 magazine clip (1/20/2014 11:58:13 AM)

I am wondering why the Democrats suffer gun reduction psychosis? Obviously, as it goes now, it can not be done with any reasonable efficiency. At the same time the economy is systematically destroyed. Are they planning to collapse the society?

mnottertail -> RE: The dreaded 30 magazine clip (1/20/2014 12:04:13 PM)

I dunno, it was the nutsackers that passed a 1+ trillion dollar pork bill to fund the government for about three quarter of this year, just recently, they dont seem to be very intent on not destroying us.

Up here in Canada, we only have a small selection in the type of guns we have. Primarily, we have hunting rifles and shot guns because up here we have vast areas where people are allowed to hunt. Police and government usually have more high powered weapons with higher powered magazines. Do we have issues with criminals getting their hands on high powered weapons? Yes, I think a lot of countries have that problem. The only thing is, the reason why we mainly have our issues with guns, is because just south of the border the Americans legally sell military grade weaponry and then it's smuggled across the border. If not for the american "freedoms" to carry whatever kind of killing machine one wants, I can surely bet a lot of Canadians wouldn't be dead. Thanks for caring about the well being of others America, I hope you realize you have your reputation for a reason.

P.S. And no, this is no reason for everyone to have guns. When two kids are fighting and one kid is hitting the other with a stick, do you give the other kid a stick too? I'll leave that up for discussion.

And on another thread would be nice. The topic here is how the anti-gun zealots damage their credibility through ignorance of the subject matter. If you want to stick around this one, why not tell us more about these "higher powered magazines," to illustrate the point being made.

Tkman117 -> RE: The dreaded 30 magazine clip (1/20/2014 1:39:22 PM)

Sure, I'll rephrase. If two kids are beating each other with sticks, is it okay for one kid to have a thicker and more damaging stick in exchange for a smaller one? Or would you want to keep the sticks as tiny as possible to mitigate the "damage" if you don't want to take them away all together?

TheHeretic -> RE: The dreaded 30 magazine clip (1/20/2014 1:58:41 PM)

Assuming you weren't talking about the search for a spiritual anchor, I had a higher powered magazine issue recently. The "power" in a mag comes from a spring, and I guess the manufacturer didn't get it quite right. I got a little .380 for Christmas, and the stocking stuffer was a spare magazine (this was the present I bought myself. [:)] )

The spare was from the same maker, but they got clever/cheap in the design, and it was for both their 9mm and .380 models. It might be fine with the 9, but the .380 was jamming constantly. My guess (and I'm not worrying about it much since I returned the mag for a caliber specific one with a slightly lower capacity that night) is that the spring was too much for the smaller cartridge.

The gun is great with the original mag, so yeah, I'd advise against the higher powered one.

I do not know what country you live in? I can legally buy serious high-powered weapon.
We do not have lot of problems with firearms for other reasons. At first, most do not feel need to own a gun. Secondly, firearm training requirement eliminates group of people who feel they might have a gun. Thirdly, people do not expect Canada to collapse soon.
South of border all three conditions are reversed. Personally, if I was living in the US (with sufficient funds) I would have a handgun and a military style rifle plus about 10,000 rounds of ammunition. Plus nobody would know about it, especially the government. It is just a common sense preparedness issue.

EdBowie -> RE: The dreaded 30 magazine clip (1/20/2014 2:12:00 PM)

'High powered' used to refer to certain combinations of rifle and ammunition useful for taking down, say elephants, or hitting a target at a very long distance, as in hunting mountain goats. I estimate that the actual number of high powered weapons that are used in crime sprees roughly a million times a year... in Hollywood.
In real life the average number hovers around zero.

Lately, the media, after the myth of 'over-penetration', the faux 'cop-killer' and 'armor piercing' bullets, seems to be straining their lexiconic skills with 'high powered' as a cliché..

Because I want more, and its none of your fucking business.

And I don't own a gun.

cactustree -> RE: The dreaded 30 magazine clip (1/20/2014 2:17:25 PM)

There is always such heated debate surrounding the ownership and use of weapons, even amongst just those who own and glorify them.

Recommend all local gun owners to stand in circular groups, and discharge thier weapons towards the centre.

We can all enjoy that, gun owners or otherwise.
