'High powered' used to refer to certain combinations of rifle and ammunition useful for taking down, say elephants, or hitting a target at a very long distance, as in hunting mountain goats. I estimate that the actual number of high powered weapons that are used in crime sprees roughly a million times a year... in Hollywood. In real life the average number hovers around zero. Lately, the media, after the myth of 'over-penetration', the faux 'cop-killer' and 'armor piercing' bullets, seems to be straining their lexiconic skills with 'high powered' as a cliché.. quote:
ORIGINAL: Tkman117 FR Up here in Canada, we only have a small selection in the type of guns we have. Primarily, we have hunting rifles and shot guns because up here we have vast areas where people are allowed to hunt. Police and government usually have more high powered weapons with higher powered magazines. Do we have issues with criminals getting their hands on high powered weapons? Yes, I think a lot of countries have that problem. The only thing is, the reason why we mainly have our issues with guns, is because just south of the border the Americans legally sell military grade weaponry and then it's smuggled across the border. If not for the american "freedoms" to carry whatever kind of killing machine one wants, I can surely bet a lot of Canadians wouldn't be dead. Thanks for caring about the well being of others America, I hope you realize you have your reputation for a reason. P.S. And no, this is no reason for everyone to have guns. When two kids are fighting and one kid is hitting the other with a stick, do you give the other kid a stick too? I'll leave that up for discussion.
