It's snowing in circles here in Eastern Massachusetts.

I have my Kindle and phone on the charger and am fixing to play with the emergency radio I got after Winter Storm Hercules.

My downstairs neighbor has a gas stove, and our water is not on an electric pump so I'm not do any prep along those lines.

What are you doing to prepare?

littlewonder -> RE: Winter Storm Janus (1/21/2014 2:31:19 PM)

Nothing. It's just another snow storm like most others we get. If I didn't lose power during snowmaggedon I'm not worried about it happening now. I even walked to the grocery store and work during snowmaggedon. This storm really isn't as bad here in Baltimore as what they were calling for or at least from what I see out my window.

But I'm still hoping they cancel work again tomorrow. [;)]

We're just getting a deep freeze, again. I would much prefer snow. At least I could go outside and breathe! Seems to be essential to my survival. [8|]

DesFIP -> RE: Winter Storm Janus (1/21/2014 3:36:15 PM)

It appears to be mainly coastal so we're just getting an inch or two. East and south are getting socked though. I can live without needing to be plowed again.

Blonderfluff -> RE: Winter Storm Janus (1/21/2014 3:38:25 PM)

We're going to get anywhere from 8-16 inches depending in which talking head is talking.

The problems going to be not so much the snow, but how cold it's getting. The salt on the roads is useless below 22 according to them.

Drinking wine and had homemade chicken soup for dinner. Lots of books on my kindle.

Laid a blanket in the grass so I can lift it up for the doggie. She won't step on snow. Prissy ole girl.

DesFIP -> RE: Winter Storm Janus (1/21/2014 3:48:07 PM)

It used to drive me batty that the dogs would romp in the snow. But you had to shovel them a path to the grass if you didn't want them going on the porch.

What a smart idea! I just go out and re-shovel my dog's "outhouse runs" . I keep a snow barrier between my walk to the car and his runs.

sexyred1 -> RE: Winter Storm Janus (1/22/2014 10:51:05 AM)

I have 8-9 inches.......of snow.

I REALLY prefer the other kind!

kalikshama -> RE: Winter Storm Janus (1/22/2014 10:53:09 AM)

I was expecting 8-12 inches and got 6. Reminds me of when I used to be on AFF.

Lucylastic -> RE: Winter Storm Janus (1/22/2014 10:53:16 AM)

just told us we are specting snow tonite, but right now its a mere -14
Got food, water, candles, and blankets,
Layering my friends... layering if you gotta go outside!!!

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: Winter Storm Janus (1/22/2014 11:23:09 AM)

It's even a bit chilly here in South-Western VA.

I moved down South to GET AWAY FROM THIS SHIT!

I'm gonna spread sand over the living room and turn the heat up to 85.

Alright, maybe I won't spread sand around. I have a cat and it's not a good idea to let her think that the entire living room is a litterbox. Come to think of it, maybe even turning the heat up that high will be expensive.

Maybe I'll just put on a sweater.

Depends on the monitor you're using.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Winter Storm Janus (1/22/2014 2:07:48 PM)

We got snow yesterday, but no where near what was predicted. Now its just really cold. Feels like -4 with the windchill.

And it looks like my furnace is thinking of quitting. Been making weird noises for a couple of weeks. Rightnow, the heat has been set at 70 degrees for several hours and its only 63 degrees in my house. I'm sure if it really decides to quit it will wait until the middle of the night and slink off quietly so I won't realize it until morning when I go downstairs and see frost on the inside of the windows.

Oh well, if that happens I will just have to go down to my neighbor/caretaker's to be warm. He has cable, so it wouldn't be all bad, lol!

anniezz338 -> RE: Winter Storm Janus (1/22/2014 2:22:49 PM)

The Metlife stadium hosting the super bowl this year is having to be dug out. Here in Houston we have a retracting roof. Never understood why so many northern stadiums do not have one.

DesFIP -> RE: Winter Storm Janus (1/22/2014 3:08:12 PM)

We escaped without any snow. Being barely above zero however, is not nice. However the log I put in the woodstove a while ago has just caught.

defiantbadgirl -> RE: Winter Storm Janus (1/22/2014 4:25:47 PM)

Send the western and central United States some of that snow. The deepest snow we've had in my area this winter is a measly 3 inches. California is in serious trouble drought wise. They depend on winter snow to fill their reservoirs and that high pressure ridge blocking much needed precipitation doesn't look like it's going anywhere any time soon.

Because we like to make the teams with retractable roofs suffer. And they're expensive and finicky in the wind. When the Bills were building a new stadium, they were going to make it roofed until they did the engineering on the wind loads around here, and the price went through the roof to make sure it'd stay on.

Buffalo is actually windier than Chicago. The more you know...

LafayetteLady -> RE: Winter Storm Janus (1/23/2014 10:52:27 AM)

I was thinking much the same thing MC. For us in NJ, the majority of the football season is in cold weather. Playing in the weather adds to the excitement and for the spectators, we plan for the cold with blankets, hot chocolate, etc.
