Status: offline 		I just want to talk about the technology, not the politics of whether or not it's a good idea in the first place.

Everything I've read on the subject says that the site (healthcare.gov) is completely insecure. I've only been able to find quotes from government employees saying things like "We've only detected 32 intrusion attempts so far"* and "we have been working hard to alleviate peoples concerns about the security"** but no actual evidence from third party security consultants that say, "It's OK. Go for it."

Does anyone have any evidence to the contrary? I asked this on my usual geek board but it quickly devolved into politics. I don't want any politics here. I strictly want to know about the tech and if it is secure. No fair claiming that no computer is secure. That's cheating.

Again, I am not interested in the politics. I am only interested in the technology.

* I once opened up a computer to the internet - non-advertised, nothing of import behind it. It was an almost blank machine I had 32 intrusion attempts in the first few seconds, so whoever stated that is a fucking moron or the detection software is a complete joke.

** Notice that she said, "alleviate the concerns" not "fixed the problems."

Status: offline 		There's been a lot of lies told but there have been no successful intrusions reported. Which is about all that can be said.

I really doubt it is a priority for hackers. The data is from lots of poor people, who applied for Medicaid, and most of the accounts won't have CC#'s so you'd have to apply for a CC with the stolen info rather than just cloning the existing card as was done with the Target data.

Status: offline 		I watch the FOX business show and CNBC regularly. Both of these have had several computer fraud experts on their shows. According to them, this website is not even close to being secure. It is a hackers dream.

Like I said a lot of lies have been told about the site. The fact remains no intrusions have been reported and no cases of identity theft have been traced to it.

Status: offline 		Dude, you cannot answer this question without involving politics. Because one side WANTS it to fail, with all their being. And they will lie, cajole, fabricate, pay, sell body parts, perform devil rituals, etc, in order to do so. Is any computer completely secure from outside intrusion, only one that I know of. And that is at the NSA. Any other on the net can be gotten into, hell even the White House servers got hacked low level

Status: offline 		No computer may be completely safe BUT when collecting sensitive data such as social security numbers there is a higher expectation. Most people expect their banks firewalls and network security personnel to be of a higher caliber than that of Collarme's or another similar free, public forum, non retail site

Actually the Whitehouse got hacked at a high level. High level and low level are reversed when talking about computers (low level is hacking the hardware.)

The only truly secure computer is one with the network cable taken out of it and locked in a steel box. With the power off.

Status: offline 		The fact of the matter is, like MalcolmNathaniel said unless you unplug the computer from the network there is always a way to get in. How, is always a matter of money and technology, which is why no one will ever break into the NSA. But as for use regular folk, its gonna happen. No computer out here is 100% safe. Target's servers got hacked, credit card info, addresses, phone numbers, etc. Sony's servers got hacked, same thing. Will that stop you from shopping online?

Status: offline 		I am very careful about shopping online and I use very strong passwords.

Target and Sony got hacked and the CC#s were captured because they held on to information that they really shouldn't have.

Status: offline 		The federal govt will also hold on to all of the info they have on those who sign up, including SS numbers and a lot of other private information.

Status: offline 		And what planet do you live on, every company in the world holds on to every scrap of information they have every collected. Information is power, as the saying goes. Why do you think we still get mail fliers in 2014, because once back in 1994 you got put on some mailing list and ever since you have been getting them. If someone is going to do a criminal act, they are going to find a way to do it. The fact that Sony got hacked proves it. If you think the average person can turn on their computer and download Sony's credit card database, you are sorely mistaken. They had some serious security, and someone broke it. Why, because they wanted to, sat down and took the time and energy to do it. More power to them. Sony fixed all the holes, they are stronger for it. Have I stopped using Sony because of it, nope. But I did get some nice consolation gifts for the trouble

Status: offline 		What is silly too is their questionnaire database that has you acknowledge huge penalties for falsifying information but requires you to lie in order to get to a person. Meh, I gave up on the website and mailed in the print version.

Status: offline 		With insurance costs so high already for those of us who pay on our own how is Obamacare going to make it cheaper? All the people who would use the emergency rooms as their regular doctors isn't going to change and paying less than $100 a year as a penalty is not going to affect them as they make the minimum in income....maybe I just don't get how Obamacare works....

Status: offline 		obombacare will not make health ins cheaper, in fact because of the required coverages insurance companies have no choice but to raise premiums and since many employer plans do not meet the minimum coverage they will be dropped. And they lied about being grandfathered in, only if the company makes NO changes to the policy.
obombacare is the biggest ripoff of the citizens of the USA ever. It's a forced tax and if you don't comply you will be fined by the IRS. Hundreds of IRS agents have been hired just to handle that part.
They like to compare it to Canadian and European health care. WRONG, those countries have price controls on fees and medicines. obombacare does not.

Question, Why did the American auto industry move to Canada? Because the health care in Canada is paid by the employees thru forced payroll deduction it's not a union bargaining chip.

In Canada the wait to see a specialist is months, even years for cancer patients. They hope you die before they have to spend money to treat you, and many do die first or soon after.

We already have a shortage of Doctors here and it will get worse. The govt is telling them how much to charge and when you look at the cost of schooling for a doctor today it's not worth the reduced income they will have in the future.

The health care system as we know it in the USA is fucked.
I feel sorry for my kids and grandkids.

There's only one problem once it's hijacked...there's nothing there. Better we have private industry. handle it like those cos. that have seen 100's of millions of actual ccard and private info at risk and likely compromised..

Absolutely false. The wait to see a specialist in Canada is no longer than in the US. It isn't years for cancer patients or anywhere near that. In fact, because of universal care Canada has a higher success rate than the US on cancer because Americans can't afford the care or treatment. Why do you think Canadians are living 3-4 years longer than Americans ?

I am 1/2 Canadian and have friends and online sub/slaves in Canada some of which have medical issues and use their system everyday.
