DRAKE326 -> RE: A question for you ???? (1/23/2014 7:57:52 AM)

Thanks I will do that. I need to rephrase it as a poll. I was hoping to see if there were books that repeatly showed up as favorites for diferent people.

TieMeInKnottss -> RE: A question for you ???? (1/23/2014 8:06:23 AM)

Most people highly recommend "Forget the Roses, Send Me the Thorns". That is one that consistently is mentioned.

orgasmdenial12 -> RE: A question for you ???? (1/23/2014 8:42:56 AM)

I like academic books, essays etc. My two favourite books are 'A Defence of Masochism' and 'safe sane and consensual' by baker.

My suggestion is that you read widely (nonfiction), and find an author or two who especially speaks to you. Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's right for you.

The -=BDSM Book List=- thread she talks about is a community effort to list the best BDSM books available. As stated, it started by listing the collection from my library, most all of which were nice informative books. For a starter book, SM 101 : A Realistic Introduction or Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns: The Romance and Sexual Sorcery of Sadomasochism are pretty good choices.

If you can get more specific about your area of interest, our well read forum members will respond in kind with more recommendations. For example, if you like Master/slave stuff or you like rope bondage, we might suggest Slavecraft or Learning The Ropes.

HntersToy -> RE: A question for you ???? (1/23/2014 10:50:59 AM)

The only book I have read on the subject is the Story of O...hated the ending, but loved what was between page one and maybe 200 or so

The old testament.

It's full of punishment and humiliation and dominance and submission.

CreativeDominant -> RE: A question for you ???? (1/23/2014 1:05:44 PM)

Personally, I enjoyed Different Loving. Also a fan of Screw The Roses, Send Me The Thorns

'Different Loving' is more of a dictionary than a how-to book. Very informative though.

'Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns' is great. After reading that I never buy thornless roses. Instead I make the girl pull the thorns off and present them to me. Then I use each rose as a flogger. If the girl has not been careful to remove every thorn, then, oh well - she'll never do that again.

^ Love it!

Count me in as a fan of 'Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns' as well.

none. I've just always done what I wanted with someone that I liked and who liked the same things I do. no books needed.

I really liked Different Loving by Gloria G. Brame because of the interviews and widespread peek into so many different facets of BDSM.

Great seeing you on the boards again.

It's not a question of 'needing' books, it's a question of enjoying the read and the information it provides. Reading about the social and artistic history of sadomasochism has been very informative and enlightening for me and I'd recommend it to anyone. However, I guess it might be a little 'dry' if you're not a big fan of reading.

It definitely is my favorite book on the lifestyle. My second favorite is The Loving Dominant.
