Call it Winter Storm Janus, Polar Vortex Part II or just, you know, January, but conditions in New York are pretty horrific — as are certain New Yorkers’ reactions to how the city handled them.

Wealthy Upper East Siders took to the New York Post to complain that their streets didn’t get top plowing priority. As Choire Sicha points out at the Awl, this all went down in the early afternoon, when there were only a couple of inches of snow blanketing the not-so-important UES cross streets. But looking to make a mountain out of a snowstorm, the Post jumped on the opportunity to dredge up some good old class warfare and anti-de Blasio sentiment:

“He is trying to get us back. He is very divisive and political,” said writer and Life-long Upper East Sider and mom Molly Jong Fast of Mayor de Blasio.

“By not plowing the Upper East Side, he is saying, ‘I’m not one of them.’”

Jong-Fast also took to Twitter to voice her concerns:

If they were used to "top plowing priority," and that's now changed, I'm not surprised people are going to make this accusation.

It's really just an example of the entitlement mentality.

If they got less plow coverage than what is proper, that's an issue, but it very easily could be something other than "payback."

Ah, who cares? Those New Yorkers think they have it rough. They should try living here. It's been warm and sunny in the 70s every day for weeks now. It's also dry as a bone, with not a drop of rain in sight. (Even though it's a desert, we usually get some rain in the winter, but this season is well below average.)

So, I guess because these people are wealthy, they think they should get top priority in having their streets plowed first? But it's not like they're stranded; they can still take the subway if the roads aren't passable (but the picture above suggests that the roads are passable). I would be more worried about people in isolated areas who may be stranded, as well as those who may not have sufficient heat in their homes. As long as they have food, heated shelter, and a subway to get to, those New Yorkers will survive. It's hard to worry too much about them.

Maybe those 1%'ers did not pay their fair share of taxes like everyone else? Since the 1%'ers would be giving more money in taxes, that could be used to purchase, maintain, and use equipment for proper snow removal. And hire people to operate those machines in an efficient manner. The 1%'ers can handle one or two days being 'locked' up in their mansions to recount their loads of wealth while watching the 'lower lifeforms' scurry here and there in the frigid air on their way to and from work. About time the politicians starting doing what's best for the 99%.....

The photo is evidence.

He knew the snow was coming.

If this sort of thing keeps up, I think New York is going to get a very hard lesson in economics...
