An there you go again, assuming huge amounts of knowledge without a clue of the facts, in order to slam someone. An event unrelated to my schooling forced me to go else where for my degree program.

It must have taken you a while to develop that insult. Unfortunately, you wasted your time! Try next time to STICK TO THE TOPIC.

You're the one who made the quality of a person's education the topic.

And no, it didn't take me long at all.

K.

I'm not the one giving the Republican *OR* Tea Party rebuttal Speeches if you were following along! The one reasons to give the rebuttal to President Obama's speech is either because your cocky or insane. How much time do you think the guy has had to prepare his speech? How many people have worked on it, to tailor each word and pause for maximized efficiency? Added the guy is a good public speaker places anyone that gives the rebuttle is already up against stiff odds. Now if they went to a real college or university, I'd given them the benefit of the doubt. But PCC really is NOT a school of higher learning.

TheHeretic -> RE: The GOP Rebuttle Person (1/26/2014 10:42:12 AM)

What seems to be missing from your assumptions, Joether, is an acceptance of the most critical fact about President Obama's speeches. Even when he bothers to apply himself to the task of delivering his words well, everyone knows those words are empty.

The GOP response will at least come from a fresh face, with a voice few have heard.

TheHeretic -> RE: The GOP Rebuttle Person (1/26/2014 12:02:37 PM)

I know you didn't miss it, Lucy, so it must be selective memory loss. The last thing I still liked about my President was his oratorical ability, but he has squandered it, by thinking that speaking is the same as doing. He's phoned it in too often, and failed to follow through on a word of it more times than that.

Rep. Rodgers is from the fundy branch of the Republican party. Not my favorite people, and not the ones I want leading anything beyond an ice cream social. I can think of a dozen people I'd rather see offering the response.

I'll have the dvr set on Tuesday, and I'll watch both speeches. I'll skip the commentary that follows, and any thoughts I may offer in here following that will be my own. As usual, I expect that will place me in a small minority.

Because, of course, no other President in American history has ever done that...

The State of the Union Address will, by necessity, be a lot of outright lies and deceptive half-truths. Oblamer isn't about to change his leadership style after 5 years and start being honest about his lack of leadership or his many military and economic failures. He won't discuss his failed foreign policy. It will be a fairly predictable affair.

Just substitute the name of any previous POTUS. All of this has been said before. Even Lincoln was a failure when in office. Yawn.

Lucylastic -> RE: The GOP Rebuttle Person (1/27/2014 8:00:59 AM)

Of course the last four rebuttal idiots kept us more entertained than the Actual state of the union, and thanks to Mother Jones wonderful timing we have... complete with videos, LOL
http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2014/01/republican-responses-obama-state-union-video
quite a blast seeing all four in one page.....

Bobby Who?
2009:

"Obama didn't give an official State of the Union address in 2009 since he'd just been inaugurated. But the president did trek down Pennsylvania Avenue to speak before a joint session of congress that had the same pomp and circumstance. Republicans jumped at the opportunity, offering Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal the respondent's slot. Jindal, long talked about as a potential national candidate, fell to earth after the speech. He retread the same-old small-government-is-good arguments in a hackneyed, "amateurish," manner that even disappointed the Fox News crowd. Adding insult to injury, the next night Jimmy Fallon invited Georgia-born actor Jack McBrayer on his show to parody Jindal's speech."

2010:Bob McDonnell he of the vaginal probe stupidness and now apparently questions on corruption

"Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell got the honors for Obama's first official State of the Union. And McDonnell, who had just been elected governor a few months before, actually gave a compelling speech, generally considered the best response of the Obama years. He ditched the lone-man routine and spoke before a receptive audience in Virginia's capitol building, matching at least a bit of Washington's ceremony. It catapulted his national reputation and fed presidential speculation—speculation that disappeared when his administration became embroiled in corruption charges. Last week, the feds indicted McDonnell and his wife for accepting
thousands of dollars."

2011: Blue eyed boy and wild eyed crazy chica Michele Bachmann

"Rep. Paul Ryan, a good-looking GOP boy wonder, was poised to offer a dynamic alternative vision for the role of government. Instead, the Wisconsin congressman turned in a snoozefest—and was upstaged by another House Republican. Minnesota's Michele Bachmann gave the inaugural "Tea Party Response," a collection of her normal out-there theories. But everyone was too distracted by technical difficulties—she spent the entire speech staring vacantly off camera—to pay much attention to her words."

2012
oh yessssssssss the boy who would be king....Marco Rubio

"Last year, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio's response gave us the crème de la crème of viral moments. After opening solid, Rubio was making his way through a fine speech until physical discomfort began to set in. He looked visibly uncomfortable, smacking his lips, doubt creeping into his brow. Finally, after speaking for 11 minutes, he caved, the risk of dry mouth too great. He did his best to maintain eye-contact with the camera. But his eyes betrayed panic as he lunged off screen to nab a minute bottle of water and audibly gulp down some relief."

The links to the vids are there for anyone who has forgotton just how cringingly bad they were.
but being a canuck, I cant get daily show clips by clicking on the vid...instead, they put up the following notice so I can go to my own clip....

Lucylastic -> RE: The GOP Rebuttle Person (1/27/2014 8:53:03 AM)

oh oh oh!!! and this just crossed my desk....

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/27/us/politics/some-republicans-departing-from-response-script.html

Senator Rand Paul, Republican of Kentucky, plans to spend part of Tuesday in a television studio off Capitol Hill recording his own unsanctioned rebuttal to Mr. Obama’s address that night. His staff plans to blast the video to news outlets around the world, and to the hundreds of thousands of people the senator reaches online through Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat.

Senator Mike Lee, Republican of Utah, will have top billing for the newest — and to some Republicans the most unwelcome — post-State of the Union event, the official Tea Party response.

Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, not content to wait until Tuesday, got rolling last week when he released a statement in which he demanded that Mr. Obama answer accusations on a variety of issues, including National Security Agency surveillance and the Affordable Care Act. He then followed up with a letter to Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. asking for a special prosecutor to look into accusations of political persecution by the Internal Revenue Service.

Weeeee they do more rebuttal than fox news, oh hang on... fox doesnt rebut it just lies its ass off
Oh I see the analogy , never mind.
I might just have to tune in for the three of their "collapse" into even deeper ridiculousness speeches.
I need a good laugh, and some badly deserved schadenfreude moments

TheHeretic -> RE: The GOP Rebuttle Person (1/27/2014 5:46:01 PM)

Mother Jones, Lucy? So, are you not aware that the editorial staff of that particular publication have openly declared themselves to be Obama's bitches, or were you just hoping no one else would remember? Why not just give us a link to Organizing for America, and be honest about what you are putting on the table?

I hadn't heard about this. Thanks! Rand is one of those I'd certainly rather see than the Rep. from Fundyville, WA.

I dont give a shit about the source
Ive never been to organizing for america.
And I got the link from Google news, not an email, you are getting really bad at being accurate in your accusations.
Its really very sad
Is there something factually wrong in the piece?
no
Is it picking on them, hell yes and with reason
Deal with it

While I like to use the NYT and HuffnPoo, so the lefties won't have the attack the source option.

Just understand what Mother Jones is, and maybe be a little sad, in light of what they used to be.

The GOP have decided on Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers to give the GOP's rebuttal speech after the President's State of the Union Speech. I, like most of you have never heard of this women. An that maybe why the GOP has pushed her into this position. In the silly attempt to get people to talk about her and not what she or the President said in their speeches. Or someone that's expendable since after all....she's just a woman....and we all know how the GOP's views women, right?

Source 1

Source 2

This is a person with 'strong' conservative values. Yes, because its well known that conservative Republican/Tea Partiers like women that are strong and force their husbands to be the woman instead, right? Further, this woman has a child with a very serious condition. Kind of like Sarah Palin, whom the GOP once thought would help the GOP ticket back in 2008. But it gets better!

She went to Pensacola Christian College! A 'school' for Christians. I went to the University of West Florida (UWF) just down the street. Anyone on my campus looked down on anyone on that campus. The males were expected to obtain a degree in four years, the women, expected to be married (the degree was an after thought). The school is so strict that its laughable that anyone there picks up on 'critical thinking skills'. For example, those of us at UWF once got hold of their 'demerit' book. If a student acquired 'X' demerits they would be thrown out of school without the ability to transfer course credit to another school. That it only took 14 demerits to kill someone: More than 3 people in a room (a party is a no-no), open window, music louder then a whisper, alcohol, and keeping the door closed (because that would hide the vibrations from the loud music from the RA down the hall, right?).

For the males on this campus, they had to follow all the rules, INCLUDING the walkways. They were color coated: Blue for boys and Pink for girls. A male would gain demerits for walking with a women that was not A ) Directed related by blood or B ) Married to him. He could not talk, hold hands, hug, kiss, or practice BDSM with them. Unlike the guys, the women had all the same restrictions...PLUS....they had to sign a book in their dorm when they wished to leave campus. They had to state who they were going with, where, how long, the nature of travel, and when they will be back. After 10PM, women were not allowed out of their dorms. Both sexes were given a strict dress code for *ALL* times of the day. And they could be spotted a mile away as 'just sticking out in a crowd' by the way they dress.

So 'yes', I ask the serious question of whether this woman can think for herself, or is just a puppet? Since anyone doing a rebuttal to a President's speech already has the odds against them (creating a speech on the fly for example), but against President Obama, whom by nature is effectively a college professor? Who has had weeks if not months, with many helping to craft his speech? What can she possible offer the GOP besides as a sacrifice to the GOP Gods?

What can she possible offer the American People in all honesty? Her party is the on that set the circumstances for the failing of the economy in 2007. Created that huge US Deficit and Debt we all 'enjoy'. Lied to get the nation into a war to find 'WMDs' that didn't exist, and has been hellish against anything the President and Democrats have done to get this nation back on its feet. Not to mention how that party treats all the minority groups in America. Or their view on the poor and middle class.

Not sure if I'll watch the GOP rebuttal speech.

Her opinion.
