The fight did start in the same spot that he agreed to not follow after all.

Something forced him to get out of his car and follow the guy? He called the cops, they told him to stop... It was a teenager walking home from the shop, what would you do if some big fat guy would follow you around? Still hoping that karma will catch up with the killer

Yes. He pursued the kid even though the cops told him to leave it alone. His gun was hidden in his belt. The kid was defending himself from an aggressive adult. Stop justifying murder. He will be hounded till the end of his days and will end up using that gun to off the biggest threat. Himself.
