One of my friends told me she was up and out of interesting things to read and asked if I had any suggestions. I sent her the Amazon link to Cherise Sinclair's book Club Shadowlands and told her it was free. She said she couldn't beat free and downloaded it. The next morning there is a message from her waiting for me where she said Damn you, Damn you for sending that book to me. Here it is two AM I am still reading this hot book and Master is asleep so I can't go and get any sex out of him. She said I was evil. Hehehehe No if I was evil I would not have loaned her the second book.

It's my one year anniversary and I've been reading Twilight for cheesy romance but this looks much more delicious, thanks!

Anytime I see a friend admiting to reading 50 shades of grey I shudder and say OMG step away from that book. ICK then I give them the link for Club Shadowlands. I have had a few OMG that is a much better book then 50 shades, thanks :)

In fantasy, the characters never have to pee or poop. They never have morning breath, kack in the eyes in the morning or bed hair. The sex is always fantastic from the get-go. The male is always rich, and the female is always beautiful. There is never any inconvenient family or pets. The toilet never stops up in fantasy. They never seem to eat regularly either.

Real life is messy, uncertain, painful and so much better than fantasy. A real man (or object of your desire) in your bed is way better than a book. And real life can be learned on the fly, so jump in and get your feet wet.

Don't let the advice here ruin your interest in BDSM fiction. Just realize that it is just that. Fiction.

Others have already expounded on how to learn about real-life in-the-moment BDSM. Enjoy your real life journey in this land that many of us call home.

Bars were really only in the gay community. Most dungeons/clubs prohibit alcohol usage because you cannot give informed consent while under the influence. It's a liability issue.

I feel like that depends on the local scene (and probably local laws)? I don't think I've ever been to a play-related event where there was not alcohol, though admittedly I don't go to a lot of parties/events and my experience is entirely limited to the MD/DC area.

Private parties, sure. But public dungeons have to deal with all kinds of laws concerning social clubs. And then you need a liquor license. Because byob only applies to restaurants. At least, in NY.

When I lived in PA, all the bdsm events were alcohol-free. It was seen as dangerous to mix bdsm and alcohol. The same thing went for the parties I attended in NJ. Now here in MD and DC, alcohol seems to be typical. Either way makes no difference to me. Doesn' tmatter to me what others do.

As I stated in my previous post, here in MD and DC, even the social clubs like The Crucible, serve alcohol.

I still have a hard time with this 'new' idea about alcohol-free BDSM venues. Maybe I'm behind the times on this, but pretty much every 'scene' I was part of either took place in a bar or private club, in Salt Lake freaking City of all places. Granted, (at the club), there were people (me) who made sure to monitor the guests to make sure no one super lit was doing anything stupid, and if the venue is well-managed (and believe me, they were), there were no major issues.

I am a firm believer that when adults wish to engage in adult behavior, they may ingest adult beverages as long as they know how to maintain themselves. I don't want to see some sloppy-ass drunk on either side of the kneel and would expect someone to step in and regulate it, but otherwise, I see absolutely no problem with mixing alcohol and the scene.

Like I said, I think it really depends on local laws. I don't go down to DC anymore, really ever, so I'm not sure what the scene is there now, but I used to go to Bound sometimes, which was an actual bar, and I know that Crucible (DC's big dungeon) served drinks at least some of the time.

I'm not sure if this has been asked before but anyways here goes. I'm an avid reader of all things romance but especially the BDSM romance. In all honesty that is the only information I have to go off of and I'm wondering just how accurate the novels are to real life when it comes to the BDSM life style. Are there actual bars/clubs that cater to kinks? I'm assuming every D/S relationship is different that being said I understand the sexual aspect but after going through the posts on here I've notice people post that it's more then just sex and I'm curious as to what that means to everyone. I hope my questions have come off pretty straight forward and thank you to anyone that has an answer. I am interested in pursuing a D/S relationship but would prefer to have all the information I can before jumping in.

thank you

Well I have yet to really read a book, BDSM or vanilla romance that was "accurate" to real life. Fiction is just that, fiction. It is supposed to embellish the details to make it interesting. Otherwise the books would be boring.

That being said, I will say my ideas of my ideal fantasy of BDSM were blown away in real life play. The cool thing about it is each time you live out a particular fantasy, your mind gets more imaginative and you keep coming up with more and kinkier than before :)

I don't expect perfection either, when I read a book I just want a good story. I would however not enjoy it if it was so far away from reality that it had me rolling my eyes.

Some states are very strict about what can go on while others are more relaxed. So even if some can not happen in your state doesn't mean the author didn't see it happen in another state. There are 3 that I know of that are careful to at least get a demonstration of a scene they want to write about. One gets hers at a club in San Fransisco.
