In The Netherlands naughty children may be taken to 'Spain' in Black Pete's sack.

Black Pete is the Dutch' Goblin King.

I see this dilemna (dilemma) as a potentially lucrative situation. 1. Get a bunch of those anti-bark collars. 2. Slap on their favorite cartoon character (My Little Pony, GI Joe, Spongebob, Metalacolypse, etc). 3. Kids want to wear the collar based solely on the fact it has aforementioned cartoon character. 4. Revel in the frustrated silence whenever they raised their voice above normal speech volume. Bonus points if it can be set to detect whining and begging for candy. 5. Profit!!!

LOL.

I have seen small babies crying and that doesn't seem to stretch my tolerance level. It is the preschoolers that have that scream that makes me wanna twitch. I have so far been lucky to not ever have a preschooler like that. This baby is my fussiest baby so far but in a restaurant setting she is fascinated with everything going on. She ends up getting people watching her amused as she cranes her head trying to see everything all at once then a new noise will happen and she will whip her head around to try and see. I need to keep knocking on wood that I never get a screaming toddler or preschooler. It will mean the end of my going out to eat. I just can't do that to people.

kiwisub12 -> RE: My tolerance level is still really low (1/27/2014 12:22:52 PM)

Oh yes you could - you eventually get so desperate for a decent meal that requires a knife and fork that you will give up your principles and do those things you say you wouldn't. That's the difference between someone with kids and someone without.

It would be abusive.

I never gave up my principles when I had a child. The only time I went out to eat a normal meal was without her. That's what sitters were for.

To this day even the cries of a baby anywhere make me want to walk in the opposite direction. when I'm out and about and I hear a baby crying I usually will walk the long way around just so I don't have to listen to it. I figure, I raised mine and have no desire to ever hear a child ever again.

DesFIP -> RE: My tolerance level is still really low (1/27/2014 2:50:13 PM)

The only other thing I would like to point out, and it's important, is that if you see a child behaving in a manner more suitable for one many years younger then the odds are overwhelming that the parents are not incompetent but the child has special needs. You folks have no idea what it's like to have a child who looks normal but isn't. Nor the amount of abuse that people feel they are entitled to say to both the parent and child.

A friend whose child was in a wheelchair admitted that people saw her kid was handicapped and shut up. Whereas because mine wasn't physically handicapped it was apparently okay to be as horrible as possible.

If the child was a paraplegic, would you folks assume what you've been assuming about the children and parents?

littlewonder -> RE: My tolerance level is still really low (1/27/2014 2:51:57 PM)

for me personally, I don't really care if the child has problems or if the parent cares or doesn't care. I simply don't like the sound of crying babies or screaming kids.

tiggerspoohbear -> RE: My tolerance level is still really low (1/27/2014 3:12:26 PM)

We started taking my niece out to upscale restaurants from the time she was a month old. As she came to the toddler stage, my sister always had a small bag packed with her favorite things. She sat with us quietly, talked to us, didn't misbehave.

On one occasion we went out to supper with them along with my best friend and her daughter. My niece sat quietly, my god daughter ran around the entire restaurant, screaming, yelling, carrying on. The two are the very same age, what a difference! I was ready to walk out and dammit we were there for my birthday. I swear, the dinner from hell.

I already suffer from severe anxiety. Imagine the great time I have in a grocery store. Last week, I had 3 kids, totally out of control, running up and down one aisle. They blocked me at every point, made me stop suddenly, swerve and start to talk to myself. Get to the end of that aisle, think I'm done with them, nooooo !!! They end up at the back of the store, down the next aisle, right where I'm headed. Mom in all this time is ignoring them, just shopping along and talking to them as if all is hunky dory. I'm ready to do serious bodily harm, my teeth are gnashing, my head is pounding. Get to the check out, guess who's behind me??? MM shows up then, I hand him my wallet, tell him I'm leaving the store NOW and he can finish the order.

I have a low tolerance level for misbehaving children as well -- although less for the children than for the parents who allow the behavior.

Dito....some months ago my partner and I used a thermal bath, one where you go to, to relax....its not a fun-swimming-park or so...

despite that there was one clearly specifically announced area, which was forbidden for kids to enter, which was of course ignored by parents and in another area a kid repeatedly jumping into the water despite that it was not allowed at all to jump into their pool anywhere in this sort of bath...(according to their own guidelines) some parents were happy to let their kids do that...no staff bothered to address it and we truly "enjoyed" our relaxing time there [8|]

I dont mind if a kid screams as it is overtired at young age....but I do mind when parents think it is ok to let their kid run wild in public places for which you pay entry (or the meal you eat there) and behave like some dog owners who think it is ok to let their dog jump up your legs cause you have to like that damn animal as much as they do....[>:]

Yep babysitters. A good friend of mine has a 16 year old girl that adores my kids. So she gets an evening of playing with my kids, eating food her mom doesn't normally have in her house, watching TV they don't have and getting paid on top of it. I get a kid free night. I call that a win/ win.

Despite having had 3 children I still cannot tolerate a screaming kid in a restaurant. I had my two younger kids with me and we went out with another couple. In the next booth over was a child that looked 3 to 4 years old that screamed and cried the entire time. While holding my baby who was looking at him like what is his problem the other couple said yeah that screaming boy sure is silly huh. I laughed a bit and thankfully they finally left. My friend said she didn't mind kid noise but that is just rude to make everyone listen to your kid scream like that while everyone else tries to eat. I had to agree, None of my children have ever screamed and carried on like that for no reason. Personally if I had a kid that carried on like that I would not take them out to eat to ruin everyone elses dinner.

In any ride I take, I always tell the flight attendant "if anyone bitches about a kid crying, give him or her my seat and put me next to the kid". I love kids. Makes me relax.

Phoenixpower, your experience reminds me of the spa Master and I enjoy going to. It's a Korean spa with the bath soaks and salt rooms and such. The last time we were there, I am in the soaks and of course every mother had brought their kids with them to run all over the place like it's a swimming pool. So much for relaxing and just enjoying my time. I tried my best to block them out but it was so friggin annoying. I mean a spa is to relax, not listen to your kids like they are at the beach.

I had a friend at the town's pool leave because some teen parent brought her baby and a pack in play. Put the pack n play in the sun by the pool so she could hang out with her friends while her baby cried for her the entire time. Why the lifeguards there did not stop it I have no clue. I would have had words with them about it though.
