And I was going to learn to fly.
She took off to find the footlights,
And I took off to find the sky.

Did you find the career you were looking for?

I was just thinking about this the other day!! Great thread.

Nope. I always wanted to be weather girl on a news show. I STILL think I would have rocked that job.

No.
I wanted to be filming/editing documentaries.
I'm happy now though. So I guess it all worked out.

Not completely, but before I became disabled, I did work in a field I loved for many years.

I wanted to be a pilot but I didn't meet the Air Force height requirement but I think I faired better. I spent my career telling pilots where to go. On the bright side, my dream is coming true. I start my ground school in February, soon I will be getting my wings.

One of these years, I really ought to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.

Missokyst -> RE: You see, she was going to be an actress. (1/27/2014 10:24:16 PM)

I wanted to be a detective.
I am a computer security tech.

What I really wanted when I was growing up is for people to value me for my intelligence.  That was hard to find in my youth given my minority status and the perceptions of the time.  It is very nice now not to be dismissed.

I love my job.

Tricky question!

I've done lots of things during my life - engineer, journalist, City analyst, now teacher.

Is it my dream job? No, but it comes a close second!

I want to be a writer, and one day I will do it.

ARIES83 -> RE: You see, she was going to be an actress. (1/27/2014 11:13:51 PM)

I'm an aspiring writer myself myotherself!
What do you want to write?

sexyred1 -> RE: You see, she was going to be an actress. (1/27/2014 11:32:12 PM)

I was going to be a Redheaded Stevie Nicks, but I only got as far as being in a college band.

Now I want to be a QVC show host.

But I don't want to live in PA so that's out.

I hsve two books inside me, One is a collection of my little stories be converted to text.
that has been asked for for years now.\\

there is also the DBSM secret society (with a disclaimer that it;s fiction,) That story involves initial skavery by chioce and then gets yo be a big busininess that falls because it A) got to big too guicky too fast B)Some of thetrainees weren't not there on their own accord, C) The Secret Service gets involved with tear gass and explosives.

there is a happy ending though, his favourite and first slave refuses to leave him aa the wall are following down, To her there is no torture convceiable that's worse than be taken from her She even defies her master by refusing to leave him at the end, Even at the end she won't leave him.

It;s a combination of Sleeoing Beauty Trilogy, ,amy "English Manors" stories and "Heart of Darkness,: It's a love story with lots of BDSMt hrown in.

I have another story that involves space travel and corruption on a planetary scale. It has murder, seduction, despair of the lower classes, decadence and a whole lot of BDSM.

I'll get start on those as soon as I stop reading pictures of kittens with cute captions.

In the meantime I am happy as an engineer.

Spelling error ar due to the Ambian in mysystem, It;' hard to type when you can't see the kreys. GOOG NIGHT!

I was going to be a rock 'n' roll star.

Came close. Released an EP (younger members: ask your mentor what they are).

Now that I am no longer able to work and before I am no longer able to play, I am going to be re-releasing the EP and a separate disc.

I'm having the most trouble with the drums, as my legs are more affected than my hands, right now but, what the hell the guy from Def Leppard made music with only one arm.

But you forgot to mention that they both got what they asked for such a long, long time ago.
She's acting happy, inside her handsome home and me, I'm flying in my taxi - taking tips and getting stoned.

[For those of you who don't know, the OP has referenced a great song by the late, great, Harry Chapin.

As for me, I never did get to become that world famous astronomer/surfer playboy with the leer jet and the mansion in Hawaii maintained by 100 naked, obedient slave girls that I dreamed about when
I should have been paying attention in math class. But you know what they say . . . life is what happens to you while your busy making other plans.

MsMJAY -> RE: You see, she was going to be an actress. (1/28/2014 3:46:25 AM)

I don't know why you asked this but I am glad you did. Looking back over my life I can see that I have achieved all the things I have wanted to do so far. I wanted to be a paralegal, I earned my Bachelors degree and did it for almost 10 years. After that I wanted to go into law enforcement. I worked as a cop for 8 years. Due to an injury that gets worse with age I had to leave that career and currently, I am in the process of earning another a degree this time in accounting.

I didn't realize it until you asked, but every goal I set, I tend to meet it. Realizing this, makes me want to set more goals.

I've also done many things in my life, from being a waitress while I worked my way through college to being a university administrator. What I always *wanted* to do was write fiction, and now that I am semi-retired that is my focus.

I've no great success so far, but it's a work in progress so to speak.

kiwisub12 -> RE: You see, she was going to be an actress. (1/28/2014 4:11:10 AM)

Way back when I wanted to be a marine biologist - but had no idea how to go about attaining that, so settled for nursing. Its been a great career, and for the most part, enjoyable.
If I had it all to do again, I would have gone to university, nutted out the math courses (cheated if necessary) and found something I really wanted to do. As it was, when I was a sweet young thing, the acceptable careers were nursing and teaching. Being the people pleaser I am, I chose nursing.

I envy kids now-a-days. There are so many more options for women now - as long as you can figure out how to pay for it.

Toysinbabeland -> RE: You see, she was going to be an actress. (1/28/2014 4:24:13 AM)

I wanted to be an archaeologist, and dig in forbidden cities, well before Indiana Jones grabbed the spotlight.
I also wanted to be a gunslinger.

Neither one for the right reasons.
I wasn't a firm believer in the pedantocracy of my upbringing.

needlesandpins -> RE: You see, she was going to be an actress. (1/28/2014 4:33:41 AM)

i wanted to be a Vet, but my mum wouldn't let me go to college, and thus uni. I also thought about being an accountant, but I don't do well stuck in an office all day, and she still wouldn't let me go to college, and thus uni. recently she told me that she had made a comment to her work buddy about how she wished I'd used my brain more. I wanted to punch her.

I changed my mind and worked with what I could maybe do instead. set myself new goals to do with horses, and classical training. my ex put paid to that, but we still had horses. we bred Arabians, showing, and producing along side the big boys with the mega money, and I proved my worth. now all that is gone to. today I'm feeling my equestrian losses extra hard :-(

I worked full time as a free lance artist for some years, and have just started painting again. I have a couple of commissions already lined up, and one on the go. there is also something else in talks at the moment too which could lead to more work, so that would be good. I've just bought a rather swanky camera, and been told by a couple of professionals that my work is hitting the mark. so, I plan to get out and about this year to shows to take photos of horses, dogs, and whatever. I'm building a new website for it all, and people will be able to see their photos and buy them, or commission a painting from them.

Ah I was going to be a forensic scientist, got close a couple of times but never quite there. May still get to working with the police one day.

Biggest thing I got be is a dad, wouldn't miss it for the world :)

jlf1961 -> RE: You see, she was going to be an actress. (1/28/2014 5:39:01 AM)

With hindsight, I should have made the army my career.

Other than that, I pretty much held every job I ever wanted to try. I have driven a truck, restored classic sail and motor yachts, done law enforcement, and now I am working on taking over the world, then the galaxy, I dont want to take over the universe, dont want to seem to greedy.

I should add that I am a bit crazy, but in a good way.
